    Help: XR250 set ups

What are XR250's like on the normal roads, any good?

What speeds can it cruise at on the Motorway without thrashing the hell out of it?

Looking at getting one to sit some tests, gone from large off road bikes to small road bike now back to a off road bike but smaller than used to so just wondering how the XR250's perform on the road as I want one I can use on and off to have fun on the farm and to tiki tour around the place with, again for fun.

Sounds like a good speed range, so pretty good bike for around town then I guess too?

    What year model is yours?

If you can, go for an XR250L.
Upside down front end and discs front and rear.

zerax used to tool around on one.

    It survived him abusing it...

The XR250Z is pretty cool though too...

I have the XR250L. Compared to the XR250R it has a slightly milder tune engine, runs a CV carb, has electric start, runs taller gearing and has a steel petrol tank. This is the same model zerax had. Basically it has a 40 tooth rear sprocket whereas the R had a 48 as far as I remember. This means mine will show 130 on the speedo reasonably easily so crusing at 100 is no worries.

If it is an R you are talking about then on the road will probably go close to the same speed and if you do a lot of road work on it I'd say gear it up a bit by changing one of the sprockets and it should be slightly faster than mine coz it has the higher power engine - large header pipes, higher compression I think.

So the R was more the dirt version, though they came road legal, whereas the L is the more road oriented version.

As a bike I like my L, just wish it was 25kg lighter.
    Cheers
