    Stupid trademe...

Few bike ads have a number in the main text and with the time difference, email is the best thing. I've been trying to set up a Trademe account so I can email sellers. It actually won't let me activate an account because I'm not from NZ or Aus, is what they tell me.

I emailed Trademe and called them c***s but they still wouldn't let me set up the account I tried some tricky stuff and I got the assistance of a helpful kiwi here in Ireland but alas, nothing has worked.

Apparently the only thing left that might work is if someone based in NZ can set up a dummy hotmail account and a dummy trademe account. It's either that or just wait until I'm physically in NZ to set up an account

Anyone have any potential alternative solutions?

Best to wait until your here, then you can get your address authenticated as a lot of traders will not deal with you until you do.

Ahh. I think I see the problem...

Seriously they have good reasons not to allow people outside of our area into TM and I guess they'll be awake to tricky ways of doing it. I also think if you do get someone to be an alias for you, as soon as the seller finds out you're not in this part of the world they are just going to think 'scammer' anyway as we've had so much of that.

Well, my plan is to hit the road as quickly as possible after arriving in Auckland. I'm not interested in using the site in anger in the short term. It's just badly inconvenient if I can't get off the plane even with a shortlist of bikes to go and look at because of Trademe's security policy...

In other words, it's bad luck for me that the big NZ bike site isn't Gumtree or a more general classifieds site.

    Ho hum...

I actually tried to state me case but they say there's nothing they can do until I get there (I didn't actually call them names!!).

Fair 'nuff. I don't think TM should be so precious about it. A colleague got a mail from a scammer about a car he's selling just today. It's not a problem unique to NZ. I would have been emailing with the offer of cash on collection.

Here's our big bike site http://www.donedeal.ie/find/motorbik...-sale/Ireland/ over 5,500 bike ads and no silly security rules and you'll never believe it- even foreigners can email sellers.

I know, they wouldn't let me set up my account from Nigeria either, even after I told them I was a trusted lawyer and had 40 million dollars to give away

    Go figure!

If I give you my life savings, can you send me your 40 million please? You seem very trustworthy, I'm not sure why.

I sold my last bike to a guy who was coming in from Canada. He had a friend in NZ pass on my details, he phoned me up to discuss it about a week before he was due in, the day after he arrived in the country he turned up at my place with cash in hand.
