I tried to swerve at the last moment but hit it with my front wheel. Front wheel left the ground, bike did a shimmy and a semi-tank slapper. I managed to hold it all together and luckily didn't come off. Shit myself but was stoked nothing else happen. However, as i got over the bridge i felt the front start to feel mushy. Pulled off and my front tire was almost flat. Managed to limp home and found my front rim had come off second best.

So is my rim poked or can it be saved thus saved me some $$$, Will still need some new undies thou and i'm gutted i was not paying enough attention to see the rock in time

Im not expert, but it looks faaarked to me! Sorry dude

Good thing you don't fix Rims for a living then......
    It is indeed repairable.

Good on you Not2slow for keeping your head and eyes up after the impact..... Shame it happened, but at least you stayed upright.

Got a call from wheel fix it. Rim is finished, and a day ahead of schedule. So i picked it up and handed over $200

Pic of damaged rim again so you don't have to go back to beginning of the thread (with tyre still on, bugger i didn't get a pic of crack hidden under the tyre)

So here are some photos of the work, In this pic the damaged edge is next to the weld so you are looking along the edge of the rim....looks pretty straight...not 100%, but pretty good.

And rim after a quick couple coats of paint
    http://i1230.photobucket.com/albums/...595_resize.jpg

rim looks pretty straight. The weld looks good, not pretty but it's just cosmetics and will be under the rubber.

so what do you think? $200 worth?

They did that weld? And didn't file it down? It's extra weight I would have thought. Did they rebalance your wheel?

    Job well done I'd say.

As long as it balances up nicely easy to check.

Will take the rim into the shop to get some new rubber and get it balanced. I asked wheel fix it where i stood if the rim couldn't be balanced. They said bring it back and they will sort it. Unfortunately wheel fix it don't have a balancing machine for motorbikes and they requested the bearings be taken out so spinning the rim is a bit problematic. We will see.

Be good to back on two wheels because sitting in traffic and watching other bikes filter tears me

    Balancing check:

Step one: place two axle/jack stands on floor (on anything of equal height)
Step two: place axle bolt (well greased) through the wheel.
Step Three: Place the axle on the stands (one either side, of course )
    Step four: spin the wheel.

When the wheel slows and comes to a rest, if it's out of balance it will go back in the opposite direction to which it was spinning and eventually come to a stop after going back and forwards. If the wheel just slowly glides to a stop, it is in good balance. If the wheel speeds up, turns green and explodes, something is wrong with it.
