Chroming in Christchurch?

I recommend Pole electroplaters. Just got some vintage rims done and quality was great.

One thing to check is whether they do polishing (before chroming) or to make sure the finish on the parts is good before you get them chromed

Yep, polish the parts to LOOK like they are chromed before they actually are will save you heaps of $$$.

As stated your parts need to be highly polished first. Finding a decent polisher isn't easy. Take in numbered bolts with nice defined shoulders and bring home numberless bolts that look like dome heads. Useless fucker! What I did in the end was I went to PPS Industries in Sockburn, talked to the guy there and came away with my own sticks and mops and attachment for my electric drill and did my own polishing to my own standard. Existing ratty chromed parts need to be stripped before they can be polished. I can't help there, I took in 40 year old fork ears to be stripped and they stripped them all right, stripped the soft solder out of the joints and completely ruined them. Heavily pitted jobs need to be taken to a professional polisher. My whole experience in Christchurch has been very, very negative so I wish you luck and if you succeed in your restoration or job requirements please PM me so that I can do another resto in confidence that I can get these basic outsourced jobs done satisfactorily.

So did you find someone outside of Christchurch to get things done?

I was told the guy in Timaru was very good as he does a lot of hotrod/resto stuff

No I didn't but have heard that the Timaru guy was very good. He fills defects in the part to be plated with copper or is it nickle? then re polishes then a final chrome plate. Something like that, very thorough.
