If I was in the market for one and saw yours I'd offer you $4300 to start with and I doubt I'd pay more than $4700

Good luck with the sale then, at least you're not hoping for silly money.
Good job on the bike too, I like it.

I'm not worried too much if you aren't a cunning linguist. I like to point it out though, because I'm a cunt

Have you been bullied over your lifetime?

Anyone else picking up on the quite worryingly meaningful and spiteful picking on from this 40- 50 something old codger on an 18 year old young gun?

I suggest you try not to take out your past life frustrations on young, naive people. It won't get you anywhere in life.

It's worth what somebody is prepared to pay. To me, that is about $2500, maybe $3000 if the tyres are new.

It's had a top end rebuild, but no idea of the quality or work, so there is $50 (base gaskets, might as well set the squish properly whilst you're in there) to check that.

It has standard pipes, so it'll be pretty slow, so there's another $600 to spend right off the bat

Decals are missing, so that'll need sorting. Chinese fairings... who knows how bad they'll be, hopefully not too much work to sort those out. OEM fairings are considerably better, although good glass is fine too.

I expect there would be another few hundred dollars worth of things to sort out. I would not want to be any more than $4000 in the hole all up. YMMV.

The advert has a number of things wrong with it FWIW. The 23 isn't frail. Hell even the 22 isn't that frail, you just need to inspect the powervalve pin on a regular basis. IT'S NOT THAT FARKIN HARD. Slightly larger carbs is wrong. More compatible heads is wrong. The valve compatibility isn't so much wrong as it is ignoring the fundamentals of how they work.

TBH, I personally would not buy it. Reading things like "new gaskets" scares the ever loving shit out of me. Surely, surely that is simply a given during a top end rebuild.

Fundamentally it should be a fun bike to own, but you're always reliant on the last owners mechanical abilities with a bike like that, tread carefully.

I knew you'd have some real info, good read I'll contact you if I'm looking for an RGV.
Is yours a 21? I'm interested in how different they feel, suspension wise and power delivery. I quite like the look of the 22 and 23.

I have a 22, but there's so little OEM gear left that it's not really comparable to a standard bike.

I'd like a 23, but they're difficult to find which drives the price up. I've no problem paying good money, but not for a shit one with no service history.

I think my next move will either be to add an as standard a 21 as I can find (for a ride to work bike), or an NS250R (don't ask, just have a soft spot for them). I would not say no to a Honda RS125, RS250, or a TZ250 though, but I suspect that maintaining one of those might be pushing my talents a little too far. TBH, I no longer require any more motorcycles so I'm not actively looking; that and pistons for my 22 are $1000 a set (stay OEM is my advice if you don't like spending money, they're very cheap).

Power delivery is fine on a 21; typical weak mid range with a lovely hit at the top. The suspension is complete shite, but that applies to all models of RGV (it's 20 years old and designed for a Japanese teenager, not some fat white guy).
