I think my next move will either be to add an as standard a 21 as I can find (for a ride to work bike), or an NS250R (don't ask, just have a soft spot for them). I would not say no to a Honda RS125, RS250, or a TZ250 though, but I suspect that maintaining one of those might be pushing my talents a little too far. TBH, I no longer require any more motorcycles so I'm not actively looking; that and pistons for my 22 are $1000 a set (stay OEM is my advice if you don't like spending money, they're very cheap).

Power delivery is fine on a 21; typical weak mid range with a lovely hit at the top. The suspension is complete shite, but that applies to all models of RGV (it's 20 years old and designed for a Japanese teenager, not some fat white guy).
Good stuff, I'm about the size of a jappy teen Are you running oversized pistons/higher comp. or something? They're interesting little machines. I'd love an NSR250 MC21 or 28, nice looking machines.

to me, given that I know the history of it, Id personally put it at 3-3.5k. maybe an extra couple hundy. Others might disagree, but that would be my valuation.

Hell even the 22 isn't that frail, you just need to inspect the powervalve pin on a regular basis.
    - or fit a set of Stan Stevens power valves...

Or any of the other brands of billet valves that cost a grand. Or you could just do the, very small, very quick, very free, maintenance job. FWIW I use Cougar valves, but that's only because factory ones don't match the barrel, exhaust port, or anything else on my bike, and these are more reliable to grind out.

Nice, you kinda remind me of one of my next door neighbors, they are known drink drivers, they like to tell people who do 50km up the street (50km zone) that they are driving at unsafe speeds, and they are trying to look out for the neighborhood, they are concerned about the safety of the children in the area.

Actually you remind me kinda like a fish,
Snapped right on to the bait.
This is teh interwebs, it happens, Dislike the thread? Report it for been off topic,
Though the bulk of the middle should be PD'd, the first post was a genuine question soon followed by the sudden link between someone whos mother has passed away, but is still alive, and a bike and putting the two together.

It's had a top end rebuild, but no idea of the quality or work, so there is $50 (base gaskets, might as well set the squish properly whilst you're in there) to check that.

It has standard pipes, so it'll be pretty slow, so there's another $600 to spend right off the bat

Decals are missing, so that'll need sorting. Chinese fairings... who knows how bad they'll be, hopefully not too much work to sort those out. OEM fairings are considerably better, although good glass is fine too.

I expect there would be another few hundred dollars worth of things to sort out. I would not want to be any more than $4000 in the hole all up. YMMV.

The advert has a number of things wrong with it FWIW. The 23 isn't frail. Hell even the 22 isn't that frail, you just need to inspect the powervalve pin on a regular basis. IT'S NOT THAT FARKIN HARD. Slightly larger carbs is wrong. More compatible heads is wrong. The valve compatibility isn't so much wrong as it is ignoring the fundamentals of how they work.

TBH, I personally would not buy it. Reading things like "new gaskets" scares the ever loving shit out of me. Surely, surely that is simply a given during a top end rebuild.

Fundamentally it should be a fun bike to own, but you're always reliant on the last owners mechanical abilities with a bike like that, tread carefully.
disagree with some of your points there. by gaskets im talking exhaust gaskets. apologies for mis understanding. Its obvious to do gaskets when u do a top end. Tyres are new. Fairings are from US of A. No doubt chinese though... stickerwork that is missing to the tank. what an extra line or two? its 20 bux from a signwriter i work 24/7 no time for stickers man. Whats wrong with the heads and carbs? if there wrong then why is it the VJ21 comes stock with them. The valves are a huge thing man. So many ppl fail to check them man ive come across heaps of rgv owners that would never check there valves simply shit like getting out all the build up. valve stage choice is preference. some prefer 2 some prefer 3. I dont like 3 in a 21 cos its pointless.... u only use them in 2 stages.

So whats the with the fucking hate towards my bike? how do u know if its alg or not. how do u know whats right or wrong? i forget my grandfathers the master of 2t's going way back to GT750's and even older. So dont come on here making accusations towards it please.

    No beef. CHur

I'm afraid you have brought this on yourself.

If you want to be treated with any form of respect perhaps you should consider cleaning up your own attitude first.
