As far as being an "accomplished rider", I guess it depends on how you define accomplishments You're certainly an expert in taking stinky bait...
It was probably a little hard for you to see my tounge firmly in cheek from there.

    2. Foot slipped off the centre stand while putting it on (didn't realise I had stepped in some slippery crap)... it was fully loaded and headed downhill as it dropped off the stand

What ended up breaking as a matter of interest? what is the most vulnerable when dropping?

Harley Davidson: The most efficient way to convert gasoline into noise without the side effects of horsepower.

'Fast' Harleys are only fast compared to stock Harleys.

43,000km (i've done. Bike is up to 57k).

I've dropped mine in a rocky ditch once (fairly stationery), cylinder guards took the hit, I think I may have done an indicator lens, thats it. Otherwise no damage.

Quite a bit broke... $18,500 was the bill.

Panniers, top box and bag on bag seat all ripped from their mounts, panniers rather dented. Pannier racks twisted, rear sub frame twisted. Screen subframe snapped, clock surround snapped, handlebars bent, one mirror missing, the other broken (along with both handguards). One indicator missing, both seats damaged. One Fog lamp missing, rail it mounts on was bent. Oh yeah, front brake lever snapped off (and not the lever, inside the mount, so a whole new unit was needed).

Rode it 1000km home with a combination of tape, zip ties and tie downs assisting.

In terms of keeping the bike running, ie, being able to ride it somewhere afterwards, I think the most vulnerable is the cylinder heads. Give them a sharp crack and it's a paperweight. Enough bars and they are quite protected. The hand guards aren't particularly strong (actually, they're just plastic), but then it's a trade off with possible bending the bars instead?

I was disappointed the lever broke off inside the mount, it's almost a grand for a new unit. The linked braking was useful getting home. Other than that, I've chucked a few protectors on, for things like the pentiometer, which are a little exposed.

Oh, and I've since dented the bash plate, even though it was in off road mode (extra ground clearance). The "road" was a little rough

But that was also a proper off at speed which would have done serious damage to any bike.

Good point. I usually mention that. I fully believe if it had been a sportsbike or such like it would have been a complete write off, not ridable home etc. The fact that it required some tape, zip ties etc, and I could ride it home is testament to just how tough it is.

You're describing my bikes in pre-crash condition there...
