Wink Got me a new project

Yep picked me up a vfr700 in need of some TLC. So I can see hours of dismantling cleaning, painting, fixing, replacing, reassembling etc. The end result all going to plan should be a good fun machine. Yep I get excited about wheeling a new piece of "junk" into the man shed. Her indoors does not understand.
Now first lets see if it actually runs !!!

OK poured in fresh fuel and charged the battery, managed to get the bike to fire but would only idle, any movement on the throttle and it died, Guess next job take of the carbs and clean.
All information I've gleaned so far suggests this is a ##$%$ of a job. Ah well that's what's its about - time to clear bench space and ensure a few of ales are handy.

Camera on charge pics to follow soon

Panadol is what you will need

Actually, they are relatively easy to get out, but a bit tricky to get back in.

Try to leave them racked together when cleaning and just drop off the float covers etc.

Use plenty of CRC on the rubber boots, push one side in a bit then use a ratchet tie down strap and crank the other side down and in. Make sense?

    Piece of piss that way.

There is a write up somewhere on one of the Sabre sites in the US. Try V45 or V65 Sabre as your search.

Cheers and have fun when you are doing and are done.

They were originally a US marketed bike to comply with the 700cc and under tarrif that their cool gubbermint put on to try and save an ailing HD and co during the '80s.

Good luck with your project. Looks cool

It wasn't the carbs causing the issue !!! it was electrical , decided to have more of a play before tackling the carbbies and while trying to get the motor to do a little more than idle noticed smoke coming from around the rectifier/regulator. Turns out the 3 connectors for the wires coming from the alternator gained some resistance and therefor a heck a lot of heat - enough to melt the plastic connector covers together. A bit of time spent with side cutters, soildering iron and heat shrink sorted this problem. Fired the bike and engine revved no problem and sounded good. Took it for a bit of a spin up and down the drive and around the section and tick the boxes. Engine - check , clutch - check, brakes - check , gears - check, suspension - check. The most expensive bits are looking good love it when that happens.
Next to dismantle to clean, paint, fix, replace the worn

Now where did I put that ale

    Cool project

Nothing like the way Hondas come just come apart abd go back together as they should.

This took up a couple of months last year:
