Thanking you all for voting and even providing detail of your crashes, has been enlightening to get an idea of how many times people have hit the road to compare to my own record. Seems to me that there are two types of crashes that make up the majority, the 'crashed caused by pushing the boundaries' ones and 'crashed caused by uncontrollable external environment' ones. It's heartening to see that there are folks out there that have spent decades on the road without crashing, a friend of mine subscribes to the view that with vigilant riding (i.e. paranoid of every moving object and surface discrepancy) and a good idea of your limits crashing can be avoided and I'd like to think this is the case.

P.S. How does the KB big cock award work? What prizes are there?

A big cock is its' own reward.
Measure once, cut twice. Practice makes perfect.

I thought that "ME" after my name was just to remind me I'm myself, but all along it stood for "Mammoth Entity". I don't know about other mentors, but I never hear from anyone, like ever. It may be where I live, or my breath, I've never worked it out.

Make that 3 types - my crashes where of the " d'oh! " variety, where there was really no excuse for such low speed/stationery retardedness.

    Twice in 36 years.

I fell off in 1978 riding around the Chch summit road near castle rock, too fast and far to little skill. I technically ran wide on a reducing radius bend and rode off the road surface, the bike went over the edge, I had minor injuries.

I was knocked off last year when car turned out from a service station across my lane, in rush hour, right in front of me. I am still a bit pissed off about this one because I slowed up as I didn't think he had seen me, I am sure he did make eye contact and completely stop just before he took off to pull into a gap that had been created on the other side of the road. I broke my thumb, he was charged with careless causing and lost his license. He was driving a company car and his employer did a H+S investigation on him as well. I have been told he was lucky to keep his job.

That only goes so far, but not all the way.

Thinking about it, I have crashed in a car more than on a bike.

I've only had one low sider so far (touches head) in 15 years due to oil on the road but at least half a dozen "near hits". These have been mainly from a certain ethnic type of driver.

Once, but it was the other drivers fault. I got hit by a mobility van that failed to give way.

It was near fatal and now my bike is at the wreckers.
