my last one was in 1996 230ks round bend smack straight into ford cortina lucky only got bruises an scrapes slowed down abit now nothn over 200
Low sided in the wet at a roundabout this evening (posted thread tonight). Not hurt - deep bruise in my shoulder and badly injured pride, but important lessons learnt. But scraped my baby.
Twice in 35 years, with the last off on the road was 29 years ago.
Though to be honest I've had numerous "close ones" over the years, but only a couple of "should haves".
Thinking about it a bit more, all of the close or shouldas I can remember since 82 (last off), would have been the other person's fault.

probably more to follow..... god i love riding bikes.... beats being shot at
Ex Soldier.
Ive sort of had one. A guy pulled out directly in front of me, and i locked up the brakes and came off it. That was about when i first started riding. But hey, an accident you can walk away from is always lucky.
Especially since then, but always have, I just assume everybody on the road doesn't see me. If i'm coming down a road and theres someone who's waiting to turn out, i just assume they don't see me and i let off the throttle a little bit, and hover the horn with my thumb and prepare to use both brakes.
Being conscious of where my bike is in relation to other cars on the road makes a big difference. Never ride in the blind spot. And always look in your mirrors even if ur not doing anything: I knew a mate of mine once who was sitting at a stop light and he looked in his mirrors at a truck coming up behind him. he wasn't sure if he was going to stop, so i put the kickstand down got off the bike and stood to the side.... the truck smashed into his bike and sent it flipping over cars.![]()
I'll claim 2 but thats just real accidents, on the adventure bike there was plenty of off's but won't class them as accidents.
First was on the hill top road to Akaroa, little hot into a tight corner and all was going good but the knobblies gave up the ghost when I hit grit in the middle of the road and it spat me off, was happily sliding down the road til the luggage rack hooked my boot and broke my ankle, the boys loaded me back on and had an interesting ride back to town
Second and most recent was the worst, cruising into town a few months ago got half way round the slightly damp QEII round about and the bike turn round on me when I hit diesel and high sided me, out come was a free trip to hospital in an Ambulance and no bike riding for quite a while.![]()
In the words of Juan-Manuel Fangio "Brakes they only slow you down"
. Ive done that too, its like really wierd.
Mine were all over 25 years ago. These are just the ones I can remember.
FS1E more than twice into ditches and fences.
RD350LC back end let go whilst scraping round a junction, I tried to get up too soon and the kerb flipped me over backwards. Landed on me AGV and got concussion.
Z1000ST wheelie, road went right, I went straight on - Dumdum
Z1000ST 100kph whole road covered in cowshit - so was I, when I stopped sliding.
CBX1000 Moto Martin, embedded into side of old man Herbert Roberts's Cortina outside pub, after he had "one for the road". I should have been toast, cops threw book at him. One arm shorter than other now (mine that is).
Had lots of close calls but managed to see it coming. Nearly had one tonight though on me streetfita, after a retard aimed his banged up corolla at me over the double yellows for a laugh. Twat!
Its knackered!.
got hit by car once 3 years ago, totaled bike and landed me in hospital for 6 days. Been riding for 5 years now. Hope all goes well from here on out![]()
None. I like it that way. It's funny, seeing as I've ridden for a year (like a fucking idiot) or so now. I've had a few times where I've come close, though. Coming up to a corner at a slightly higher than normal speed and the rear wheel locked up sending me into panic mode, had my eyes locked onto the ditch I was inevitably about to go into... buuuuut made it thankfully. All of my other related 'near crashes' were similar situations, came into a corner too quick and underestimated the turn. Probably only happened because I was learning.
Really? a year in and you have the words ''All of my other related 'near crashes'' to use? seriously, you need to have a little more respect for your life and your family/mates... they are the ones who will continue to hurt after you kill yourself as a result of having very little in the way of the skills needed to ride a motorbike.
