GrayWolf: Extra-Large all-red capital letters make for a very compelling argument, especially when combined with umpteen-years-continuous-riding-experience. However, I STILL wouldn't feel comfortable parking a ginormous Can Am in a motorbike parking space (or spaces) but, again, that's just me. Perhaps if you'd used several emoticons I might've been swayed. You obviously feel quite strongly about this subject, may I respectfully suggest you start a fresh topic about the Can Am to enlighten KBers about it's legal status.

    misterO,
no I am not starting a new thread, and the use of the large red lettering was used only to answer several less 'logical' arguements. I think if you read all my posts concerning this I pointed out that unless in the company of other m/cycles neither of us would look to park in M/c bays, especialy in the working week.
What I do feel strongly about is when people show unfound uninformed prejudice over a topic especialy as we are already a 'marginalised group' whether a Can Am, scooter, trike, or a particular sexual or social preference sub set.
Whether you are swayed, or not; is of no consequence to me. My point was made and like it or not those 'bike/trikes' are looking like growing in numbers.
I spent yesterday riding it with my partner over the 'rapa. It'll never replace my bike, but it is a hoot!

Wellington has a by-law stating that Motorcycles may not use pay and display parking (Almost all of the CBD and beyond) as free motorcycle parking is provided.

As a car as that is where the ACC cost are accounted for.

Even if you pay and display? ( I realise that's not always possible with a bike)

That is right. Not allowed to use as they provide free parking.

What about when the spyder driver turns up at the hospital with a broken arm, for example, which he got from falling off his "motorbike"
Or at the Docs; " ever since i started riding my motorbike i've been having back problems"

While perfectly correct that is also a load of crap. As far as I know they are the only city in NZ to do this. There is free motorcycle parking in Auckland also. But we are still allowed to use the "car" parking.

who thought up this crazy stupid idea!!??!!

if you pay you should be able to park anywhere.. does that mean handicapped/disabled folks can't park in regular spots because they are provided their own parking spaces elsewhere?

friggin WCC are a bunch of clowns, or were when they wrote this particular by-law

It's not just about free parking being available.

It's to do with how many bikes will get in a space, and how one would securely fasten the pay-and-display ticket to the bike. People will actually steal the tickets and put them in their cars.

The council is working on new ways to make people pay, which will change where bikes can park. (One of them involves putting another bloody piece-of-paper-holder on the bike.)
Measure once, cut twice. Practice makes perfect.

Just an update. The OP sent me the pics, and I posted a parking ticket to the registered person.

It happened to be a company whose premises is maybe 200 metres away from the scene of the parking crime. Bet they haven't parked there again.

I expect they wonder how come they got a parking ticket from a Popo in Chur Chur. Actually, I wonder why I did it, but hey, it was novel.
