    Testing 1 2 3

    Hi all

    It is still early stages in development, but if you have a spare two minutes it would be great to get some feedback on how the Adventure Guide Google map is loading across various internet connections throughout New Zealand.

    Step 1: click on this link www.adventureguide.co.nz

    Step 2: check for the following things to happen...

    • The Google map of New Zealand should load with a few routes, huts and fishing spots.
    • You should be able to use the mouse to drag the map around and double-click to zoom in on the map (as you would normally do on a Google map)
    • Along the top of the map there are three tan coloured buttons: Routes, Huts and Fishing. By clicking on these buttons you should be able to show or hide these particular elements
    • If you click on one of the routes, huts or fishing spots and information box will pop up with an image, details, and a link to click on (link will lead to construction page at this stage)
    • Clicking on the X at the top right of this information box will close this box

    The main point of this exercise is to check that the layers (routes, huts, fishing spots) are correctly being loaded and overlaid onto the map. There is still some tweaking to do on some of the JavaScript Google map scripts regarding loading times and layer orders however I believe I have it pretty much sorted. Any and all feedback is welcomed

    Thanks

    Fyi the map is still looking very naked of routes at the moment but now that the majority of the base coding is done the stack of routes I have here ready to load will be put up over the coming few weeks

    Seems to be working well for me , im using google chrome. The resizing of the map depending on if you have selected (routes/huts etc) is a cool feature.

    Using the mouse scroll wheel zooms the map and scrolls the page; it should do only one at a time.

    Win XP SP3 and Firefox 6.0.2.
    Cheers,

    looks good but....

    -the scroll wheel zooming the map and scrolling the page when the mouse pointer is over the map as warewolf says is an issue.

    -clicking the route/hut/fishing buttons to switch off the feature works well but when you click to turn any of the features back on the map jumps and resizes, I found that off putting as I loose my place on the map if you know what I mean.

    About to check IE.

    works good on firefox(6.0), midori( webkit, pre-release )
    also works on my "cellphone" using firefox ,opera and its stock browser( xulrunner based i think )

    the only thing i dont like is that it changes the zoom level/position when enabling the layers (routes, huts, fishing spots)

    other than that looks very good

    W7, IE 9

    The scroll wheel works properly or as expected only zooming when mouse over the map, only scrolling when mouse away from the map.

    The Route/hut/fish buttons act the same as in Firefox with the map jump/zoom when switching features back on.

    Everything else seems ok.

    Same scrolling issue for me. My Bro in Law fixed that for my site - no idea how. Obviously go rip any code you want from my site if it works for you.

    Cheers Ryan, a nice simple wee function:

    function wheelevent(e)
    {
    if (!e)
    {
    e = window.event
    }
    if (e.preventDefault)
    {
    e.preventDefault()
    }
    e.returnValue = false;
    }
    GEvent.addDomListener(map.getContainer(), "DOMMouseScroll", wheelevent);
    map.getContainer().onmousewheel = wheelevent;

    The fishing spots are quite general but very good for those touring new areas and looking for a place to wet their line, certainly no secret spots revealed, those don't even have a price

    Looking good,
    I found the bit below annoying, turning them off fine but back on and out we go!
