Announce 2003 Suzuki VS800GL playing up

Turn on ignition and headlight is very dull , no speedo light even though bulbs are not blown , and both back indicators light up , engine starts , horn , indicators , tail light all go , at a loss to what it could be , all fuses have been checked , all earth connections checked as well . Any advice would be greatly appreciated with thanks .

    Hi Aluria
Have you changed the Bulb? and checked all the wiring connections for wear and corrosion etc ?
It could just be a poor contact or corrosion build up causing excessive resistance, or even a worn/crushed cable etc.
Best to use a volt meter to see what volts/current is actually reaching these systems.

Bloody hate chasing electrical faults lol....aways a mission!

    Sure have

Checked all wires and bulb isn,t blown , it comes on very dim also on high beam its dull as well , if you do not start the bike and turn on the indicator switch , then the indicators will not blink , but if you start the bike and do the same then indicators blink and work fine , all bulbs within the whole bike are fine with none blown and no corrossion can be seen anywhere . you turn on ignition and all 4 indicators light up only the front ones should as they are double filament and back ones are single .

Best put that batterie on charge over night to eliminate that as a possible cause, and check it with a Volt meter to ensure it is supplying the right amount of juice is being supplied (could have a bad batterie!)
Other than that mate.....best of luck! ....bloody sparky bits are the bain of most us lol

    Battery is brand new

Had Temp sensor replaced last month as well as new battery , running great until weekend , when fault showed , may have to take to motorcycle shop and get them to look at it .

    Have found out

If I take out the headlight bulb everything returns to normal and speedo light comes back on , once bulb is replaced in socket everything goes haywire again .

Does the connector that plugs onto the bulb look ok?

No sign of heat or melting?

no sign of any heating at all

as soon as bulb is placed into socket then everything goes stupid , and even the 2 front indicators change from one filament to the front filament and back indicators light up as well , and speedo light and high beam light go off , take bulb out and it all goes back to normal .

    Sounds like another Taniwha

Follow the wires to your headlight back as far as you can. Possibly a short to the frame from a positive lead.

    As above.....

And pay particular attention to where the wires go through the rubber grommet into the headlight housing.

Have done all that and no go

Have noticed if I take the headlight bulb out and turn on indicators all 4 indicators flash and so does the high beam indicator and speedo light as well , if I place the bulb back in all this stops and back indicators stay illuminated , speedo and high beam light go out and headlight is like a flat torch on both beams .

Hmmm dosn't sound good mate (Bloody Odd to be quite honest), could be fused wires some where or an earthing issue.

Checked the net and could only find a VS800 92 wiring diagram...hope it helps
Will keep looking tho as theres nothing worse than chasing the demon electrical fault ay
