Hi Guys, Feeling better but still pretty sore despite the copious quantities of pain killers I'm shovelling down. Had my first session with a physio today which went really well, there's a lot to work on but we will get there!

I have the insurance assessor coming round tomorrow for a chat so will know more on the 690's fate after that. I have requested AFC In Palmy do a full survey of the bike to make sure everything is ok frame, engine and computer wise so if that all checks out hopefully she will live again....will just have to wait and see though.

    holy shit...

    Hey Marty,
Just been catching up on this thread, as I saw something about 'hope you are well' and clearly there has been a run with the 690 and a woolly creature...sheesh, not good buddy....

I'm just getting back into the bike, and even had the last of the steel out the leg, so technically I am all human again...so hearing that stupid animals can still get ya...gives me the heeby jeebys. Speaking of that, I went out for a careful ride over the wairapara and went past some oncoming stock...the f'n stupid cows decided at the last minute to bolt from one side of the road to the other. Shit...I had already slowed down, and was as far away as a nervous rider would expect yet they hunted me down...honestly, it was all reaction on my part and I managed to gas it, into between two of them...bloody close and it was my practically my real outing....really shook me... !@#$ bastard food groups!

Anyway...I'll keep an eye on thread - the wife can't be happy huh??

Hi mate, Glad to hear your recovery is going well. I was pretty lucky as it turns out - could have been a lot worse. Have had to deal with comments like "have you learned your lesson yet", Motorcyclists are temporary citizens (isn't everyone?) from some folks but have only received support and encouragement from my wife and family which has been awesome.

You can never predict how livestock will react on roads and in a surprise situation odds are not in your favour and the bigger they are the harder you fall.

    Take care Veg

For sure on the worse thing...but think also how many you have got away with...plus we're old(ish) and all have lot's of kays on our personal clocks. Life is about getting as much in as you can, and then dying with a worn out, high mileage body...there is no trade in or special deal for arriving at the pearly gates with low mileage!!!

yeah...I hear ya on that, I get annoyed about the bike/risk/danger issue...but honestly, with the 2 weeks I had in hospital and seeing a range of injuries, most of the things were related to just being alive...so the fact that we get hurt doing something adventurous and exiting is actually ok. People get hurt playing rugby, "but thats ok."..but on bikes "oh that's silly" - they can go get fucked. . For instance, There was one guy across from me, who tore both knee caps off as he fell downstairs while trying to get cellphone coverage...at least I was 'living'...

I haven't read what damage you have done to you and bike...whats the tally?

smashed 9 ribs, punctured lung, concussion, broken collar bone and shoulder blade, bruising everywhere.

All my riding gear is toast including my Tech 10's, helmet, gopro, jacket, pants, camelback & Gloves.

the insurance assessor came by this morning and was really great to deal with so my next assignment is pricing replacement gear. The bike has limited damage, busted indicators, lot of road scratching/gouges all over, smashed one end of the bars but the real concern is the front end looks like it may have been bent in which case it will most likely be written off. Will be getting confirmation latter today or tomorrow on sending it to AFC for repair costs which are likely to be significant either way.

Chin up mate. It's better to be looking down at the daisy's then up at them.

I'll try call around near x-mas and see if I can get you giggling. I bet that hurts.

I hope someone collected the carcass. If that animal nearly killed you at least they should let you make a seat cover out of it Good to hear your getting better.

Not sure exactly when I'll be riding again but hopefully not too long....have to get a new bike sorted and just can't decide what way to go, maybe I should start a "what is the best dual sport thread"

All the best everyone for the festive season and for next year, sad to see a few riders around Hastings last Sat that were dressed for the weather and not for protection. Glad to hear your looking forward to getting back in the saddle Marty, Dont envy you on trying to decide on the "right" bike.

    Merry x-mas everyone.

I was hoping to visit you Marty, but I'm spending most of my time sitting in hospital waiting rooms myself at the moment. Mrs Bart is in for a minor surgery. Nothing too serious. Hopefully she'll be out today. Staff at the hospital are great, but it's not the place to be for x-mas.

Roll on 2014. 2013 has not been good to us.
