Merry xmas and happy new year all even if its looking like a wet one here.
Where does that track go??? Some impromptu adventure riding on a muddy 4WD track off the forgotten highway coming back from Wanganui the long way on the 750.
Got to the point of no return and just had to keep going up!

We should do a group trip and stay at the pub and explore about sometime. Met some ladies there who were headed to the music festival 20km up the road at Tahora also, they said that farmer has bike rallies there too so may have to look into that. Think most of the interesting side tracks are at NPLY end. Must be some 'Westie' ADV riders on here that can advise us...![]()
Anytime after Jan 23rd...my return date...
Want to make a trip over that way for a long time..
Good warm-up before the Dusty Butt Ride..yea, going again this year![]()

great pic! its a neat bit of bushride huh? the wall is hard to spot...its cleverly diguised as a bare rockface under some trees lol but if you google 'kaimanawa wall' youll see how it looks. did you go right to the end of the road? i have been years ago but cant remember if theres any trails to explore off it

Interesting read about the wall most bizarre - will have to venture out there one day.
Nice pic. R650R
Thanks guys, I meant to GPS it on the phone but having too much fun. Explored just about every nook and cranny that looked like a legitmate 4WD track into bush...
A short way in there is a gravel siding to the left where there's enough space for a small bus to turn around perhaps, anyway from there is a 2km ish track leading up to a quarry on an exposed dip in ridgeline with some neat views to Taupo. Back on main track about 3/4 of way in is a larger camping area where several familys were setup, found a muddy 4WD track that followed for about 50m before a tricky section appeared with sawn logs parked in it...
Overall the road/track seems to be maintained to very hi standard, you could get in there in a roadbike no worries.
I was with eddie, the day we found the wall, it is actually a few kms back, right hand side if heading to SHWY 5.
Basically we parked the bikes and walked into the bush, the wall was about 50 metres back off the road in plain view. It just looks like a rock wall until you get closer.
I know it was a bit of going up and down the road looking left and right, but it was eventually found. If you get to the end of the road, you have gone too far.
at the 'rabbit patch' where the biggest camp area is you can navigate north/norwest into the lake taupo forestry pines which has a ton of gravel roads......BUT its not public so beware the local iwi.
the track up to the quarry used to be fun as it was major washed out with huge ruts all the way up, great fun on the trail bike, but that gets cleaaned up every now and then so i dont no what its like now

Bollocks, get of your arse and go get it
