Hawke's Bay Ride Outs - is anyone there?

I was with eddie, the day we found the wall, it is actually a few kms back, right hand side if heading to SHWY 5.
Basically we parked the bikes and walked into the bush, the wall was about 50 metres back off the road in plain view. It just looks like a rock wall until you get closer.
I know it was a bit of going up and down the road looking left and right, but it was eventually found. If you get to the end of the road, you have gone too far.

maybe thats a different one again? the one ive seen is along the main dirt road, left hand side as your heading in...about 500m before the bigger clearing where people camp. 7km in from the hunting lodge maybe

Saw a 2010 Yamaha XT250 come past my place yesterday, silver helmet and looked like off-white and black klim riding gear.
Looked very smart and had to carjam the number plate to find out what it was lol
Specs looks like be an interesting bike for tight and twisty adv rides

Interesting if you are going downhill, with a tailwind, looking for maximum fuel economy...I'd cry if I had to ride that a long way...actually I'd cry if I had to ride it all...

Sounds like the Klim gear was the best part of that setup....

ha...I know...I'm being a wanker, but having had to swap with a mate to have a go once, and only once...I was dissapointed with the performance. Sure it's not designed to be rocket...but if you've been a 650R man, you will know what I mean!!

Hi guys, The insurance company contacted me yesterday to say its not cost effective to repair the 690 so its been written off. - not an unexpected result but I'm gutted all the same. I'm at least 2-3 months away in my recovery to even think about riding so cant even test ride anything. Decisions decisions decisions

I'm at least 2-3 months away in my recovery to even think about riding so cant even test tide anything. Decisions decisions decisions

So well have to keep an eye on Turners Damaged auctions for a mint KTM motor then, wonder if fit in a DR frame...

I'd say look at anything lightweight, your injuries will prob still make themselves felt for a long time so you'll want something that's super easy to move about and handle.
That narrows down the options a lot to start with.

Am not ruling out an old slugger, but I am concerned I'd be screwing with some universal adventure rider law going from a 690 to KLR? Wades KLR would be nice to take for a test spin


There's a nice 640 ADV on TM at the moment but not sure I could handle the legendary engine vibes

Greetings to everyone.

I'm bored sitting at home at the moment so thought I'd post up an update on things. Progress on my recovery has been a bit frustratingly slow. Still having shoulder problems and going for a second cortisone injection soon. The concussion has been my biggest challenge though and have been ordered to stay home this week by my GP in order to rest my brain....shouldn't be too hard as there's not much there to tire it out.

Have been looking at bike options but cant decide what direction to go in. I'm thinking about an EXC 500 (there's a nice 2013 6days on TM at the moment) or whether to leave ADV/road riding altogether (as I don't think my poor old noggin will handle another major knock) and get something more sedate like a 350 or better still a 250 feeride and just do light woods stuff. I started the Rev3 on Sunday and rode it gently round the cul-de-sac (only one small wheelie) and cant wait to get out on it again.

Whatever I decide there will be a bike of some description in my future and hopefully not too much longer before I can venture out; autumn riding in The Bay is an exceptional time of year.

Hey Marty,
Yup..I feel your anguish and decision processing that must be going on....not only the injury and hassles but also the tacit pressure placed upon you from family and friends about evil motorcycles.

As you know, It's been nearly two years since I destroyed my knee and I'm still regaining strength but on the flip side, I rode the DB1k and for me it was a real sense of acheivement. The ride was probably harder and longer than I had expected but I coped and any concern with knee and worry certainly had to go once on the awakino saddle.

I did ride well and the only mistake was dropping it in one of the rivers (stupid rock) and my weak leg couldn't prevent the 690 from taking a wee bath. After the whole event, I still like the 690 and now want to go with the evo kits to make it more rally. I to, was thinking smaller, lighter slower...but wait to the healings done, as the body lets you know what you really will be capable of.

Perhaps get all of them...that solves the issue :-D
