...back in the saddle, and getting a little!
The EXC500 looks nice, could be very damaging to my bank account *quickly closes trademe window*
That new 450.... eeeekkk on the styling but knowing what it could do as a bike hmmmmm
BTW for those not on FB, guy from the Classic club has had 907 Ducati stolen today, rego 907V2, keep your eyes out, possible painted black already and maybe seen on onekawa area.
Yes very nice, where abouts???
Managed back roads to Glengary Rd through to SH5 short sprint to Waitara Rd then Jock Sutton rd for a spot of fishing, then onto Pohokura Rd to the very end where the gate is locked over the Mohaka which is where the picture is which is a lovely dead end valley. From there headed out on the Pohokura Rd to Lake Tutira and sprint home as it was dark by then and i left at 9am.
Plan was to carry on and see the Te Hoe river then back out but they are logging so the gate was locked and you may need a permitalso Darky Spur Rd on the way home but ran out of time catching mud fish.
Alot of gravel between SH5 & Tutira so will have to go back for some more exploring.
Hows things Marty you getting better ?
Will have to check out that J Sutton rd, haven't taken that one yet. Did realise you could get that far north along Pohukura from that junction. Yeah they were logging hard out up that Te Hoe block when I was up there while back, lots of signs saying no access etc. From SH2 you can get to the other end of it from Willowflat, nice ride, then along Mokonui rd a little way before it says private, te hoe station.
Any trouble with bees? Caught three swarms up around that Pohokura/Waitara junction last time...
Yeah Te Hoe river is part of fish and game access so you should be able to get to it but have to ask first, looks like you can ride through the river and carry on for a bit think it said only cross with caution, no bees but lots of wasps on the river bank seems most nests didn't die off as we had a mild winter last so we have double this year.
Oh and jock Sutton isn't long but nice down hill down to the river a km or two to where the Waipunga meets the Mohaka, was a bit surprised how much gravel and how nice it is SH5 to tutira
Hi Paul, glad to see your out and about we've had some awesome riding weather lately![]()
Unfortunately my progress has got a bit stuck, my broken shoulder is still playing up - surgery is looking likely, plus the concussion is proving a tad challenging to get through. I am optimistic of a full recovery but have to accept its going to take more time than I initially hoped - I was pretty broken so not that surprising. in the meantime keep posting the pics so I can see what I'm missing![]()
....wherezz that track go
Hey Paul ~ if you are looking for someone to explore with I have most weekends free and a choice of bikes..Ha!
Keep the pics coming...and go by and check on Marty![]()

Greetings. I'm a bit bored today so in the interests of forensics, dug out my GPS file of the fateful day. After some keen analysis of the track file I deduced the following findings:![]()
the bike was averaging 112kph when the speed suddenly dropped to 26kph for 36meters, 19kph for 15m then various drops over a further 10m to 0kph where it remained stationary for some time.
I theorise that the reason for the recorded speed reduction can largely be explained by the high number of fractures to the left torso of the unfortunate rider
The picture below shows where half of the sheep came to rest which was some 30m back from the final resting spot of the other half of the sheep, the bike, and the unfortunate rider which proves the point that hitting livestock on your motorcycle can be a real drag.
as you were![]()

Hi Marty i was thinking of you and sheep when i was out the other day, nearly hit a couple of rabbits but no sheep luckily. I'm thinking of shipping the DR to Oz next year to see my sister and see a bit of the country oh and the Finke desert race but it might be a bit soon after your rehab not to mention your wife killing meso have been reading a fair few ride reports - out there you gotta watch out for the roo's and emu's which have a death wish !!!
Keep positive dood
Knowing what has happened to you, I take it real easy on Middle Road now...
The OZ thing sounds real interesting...wonder what shipping will run ~Paul?
