Need to watch out in some of that country up there Raymond, The locals refused to sign the Treaty.

So your saying I should take more than a couple of bags of flour to negotiate tricky situations???
Seriously though I've never had a problem (touchwood) in whatever backwater neighbourhood I've been in.
From fish and chips at the Wairoa rivermouth to delivering truckloads of alcohol by myself to bottle stores around Otara, Wymondley and Mangare. Or walking the streets of a few dodgy areas like Peckham and Birmingham in UK to get lunch from the corner dairy where everyone was convinced I'd never be seen again. I did have second thoughts when I saw every second house had its windows boarded up!
I think its all about how you interact with people in those first moments.
BTW googled the name on gate, Mangataniwha. Seems to be an interesting place that may have gone out of business, no webpage anymore. One of NZ's largest privately owned tracts of native bush with not all species fully surveyed.
Could be an interesting place to camp and have a nosey about if someone could get us access...
All good lol, Hell of a lot of country in there, The only time you are likely to piss the locals off is during the Roar. Prob best to contact the forest managers for the area and they will probably be happy to discuss access with you and at least you will know where their boundaries are. looking at a Topo 50 map of the area and its looks a giant spiders web of roads and tracks.

A bit late, but again great pics Raymond. I like Wade would be keen to join you on a ride. Need to get a WOF this week on the 2hundy though. I get what you are saying as a neighbour thinks every time I venture into Minginui, I may never returnI like you lived in England. London, Streatham ( not too long after the Brixton riots) & in a tower block in an estate in Old Street Station & got on so well with the locals.
When taking pics in Minginui, the local kids were so interested & wanted pics taken with them. So coooool
I thought it was Mother's Day today not Man Flu Day
Get well soon Wade.
I'm not so good at organising rides, even when I do go out its a bit of a last minute decision (mountainbike seems to win most times) but I might try organise something interesting.
Better start hunting for a new back tyre also I think...
Hi all, could anyone tell me if its possible to ride out to cape kidnappers, on a two wheeler motorbike. I know four wheeler and tractors no probs but is it to soft etc for an average adventure bike? Thanks in advance.
Yes. Go back a bit in this thread you'll see my pics. You want to go when it's a proper 0.0m low tide, at a 0.3 low tide it's quite a difference and you'll have to ride the soft wet stuff and waves lol... The area is under DOC control so take it easy so we still allowed access.
Damn I'm a slow typist, beaten to it![]()
Do you ride down to the beach from anywhere along Clifton Road (wherever it's possible that is), or is there a better place to get on the beach?
Three of us rode from Haumoana along the Beach a couple of years ago but that did mean crossing where the Maraetotara river comes out on the beach which wasnt bad (river mouth has no doubt moved so not sure what its like now), but you could join the beach at the Clifton Cafe where the tractors enter best avoid the campground & boat ramp area further on to save winding up the members as there are enough local hoons on dirt bikes & three wheeler quads doing that.
Damn that Pakowhai dirt park is one slippery greasy track, glad I didn't have full tank of gas
Went for quick blat as hadn't been in there before and just short ride testing heated gloves out.
You might be right after all http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crim...ed-at-gunpoint
Would have passed them at some point as was up there shooting a truck for next mag article, glad I parked DR well off the road!
