Go Pro HD buying guide?

Hallo from Germany,

I haven't been through the forums since years so please excuse me if this is a re-post etc.

I want to buy a Go pro cam for motorbike riding + Down hill push bike + paragliding + what ever.

What would be the best model to buy or how do I get set up, the most cost effective way? Shall I buy the motorsport hero or buy the basic model + special accessories.

Buy the motorsport and buy a handlebar mount for the push bike, or just mount it on your helmet

Get the latest & greatest Go Pro Hero HD. You can get an accessory screen for it & all sorts of wee doo dackies.

I have only used the suction cup with the motorsport kit once, too much vibration on my bike, maybe the helmet kit would be better. Get plenty of the self adhesive mounts, the cameras become quite addictive.

Get a decent memory card too, I use a 16gb one & have never come close to filling it. A back up battery is another good option.

Get an HD one.

The Motorsport Pro has a suction cup mount. Unfortunately, I haven't found many surfaces on a bike that it will adhere to. Most have too much of a curve in them for the suction cup to seal. Even the petrol tank on my bike has too much of a curve in the top of it.

One thing I've found is it can have problems with vibrations depending on where you mount it. Don't go stringing together 2 or 3 of the brackets otherwise it can start to wave around.

The best mounts for the thing are the ones I've made myself. Two bits of 1mm thick aluminium with holes, separated by another 1mm piece that gets bolted to somewhere on the bike (my favourite is on the muffler bracket)

theres really just the two models of camera now, the original one is no longer avaialble, unless you go second hand.

The price difference between the 720p, and the full HD 1080p camera isnt all that much, but there are a number of things available for the latter that do not work on the prior.

Thanks guys. Also did my own research and just picked up the 1080p Motorsport version. So happy! Will have to look at the mounts tomorrow

I'd just get the HD Hero camera and a handlebar mounting kit first.
The motorsport kit is better for cars.
Also Helmet mounts don't give anywhere near as dynamic footage as mounted on the bike or on your body.
The chest mount harness is the best for motorcycles.

Iv had older bikes and have always preferred the suction cup, gives you the same sort of view but without the movement

Suction system only works on some bikes though. Lots have to raise the camera too high to clear bodywork or instrument clusters and it gets a wobble up.

Issue for me because of all the different machines.

Yeah, I have my new bike arriving soon,
I think ill have to revise where ill be putting it, as I dont think it will stick to the tank/and or you wont see over the cluster,
I like the chesty mount but I dont see it as usable for me, im too short so I am forever leaning forward haha

Make me an offer on my GoPro HD with 16gb Kingston SDHC card, suction cup mount, chest mount, head strap mount, curved and flat adhesive mounts, open and closed doors, and LCD Bacpac.

All up I think it cost $700-$800 but that was before the exchange rate got better

skydivezone.co.nz offer the naked kit for $359.00...not quite as many mounts and accessories as yours though.
