Freshly squeezed penguin oil is the best.
Freshly squeezed teenagers face oil is the worst.

Hi Newbi.
Everybody has a theory about what is the right product etc but if its clean and looks wet your onto it.
Dry is bad
Rust is bad
loose is really bad.
Hope this helps.
Ride it until the wheels fall off...
do it when you just finished a ride that way the chain is hot and more receptive to your juices...
Because I'm a lazy sod, I used to fit a Scotoiler which solved the "when to lubricate" problem - still have to check the adjustment though, and of course, everyone will have a different time period, but I used to check mine about once a week.
There are probably about 28.6 gazillion threads about chain maintenance on here. Try a search - might find many answers to your questions.

rust hates kerosene
chain likes chain lube - avail at all repco/supercheap/bunnings/ etc literally called chain lube, spray in a can but not too much or the undercarriage gets messy.
best thing for a newbie, find and stick to a good biker mate, not a riff raff tho thinks it's cool and falls off 3 times in a year

Im sure he knows how to do a search, but there is nothing like up to date info, there could be a new lube product out there etc, thats why the same question gets asked over and over.People who point out the obvious "use the search function" are like people I see everyday at work, they like saying things like "whats wrong with ya thats basic stuff", to a very green 1st year who knows stuff all.Other people are more than happy to answer the same question over and over again, and these people just happen to be the top tradesman in the workshop.
I'm a walking talking advert for ScottOiler. Fitted one when I replaced two sprockets and had an X-ring chain fitted at 13,000 km (I don't know how the original owner looked after the bike).
I've set it for one drop every 2 minutes. I do get a little oil film on the rear mudguard and wheel, but that's a small price for increased chain life and reduced chain maintenance.
But I've now done another 14,000 km since I fitted the chain, sprockets and ScottOiler and have only had to adjust the chain once. Some of that increased chain life may be due to the X-ring chain, but at least some of it is due to the ScottOiler. I check the reservoir every couple of weeks.
If you're gonna use chain lube like normal people, Spectro SX Chain Wax is awesome. Rather than going on as oil it comes out as a tacky white substance. Lasts longer and doesn't get flung all over your shit. Real good for making drawers open and close easier too![]()
