    Keeping fruit fresh?

Went for a ride the other week and decided that instead of the usual moro bars i would take a banana and a nectarine with me.
I put them in the pocket in my hydra pack and left for an epic adventure thinking that when i got peckish they would be there waiting for me all fresh and juicy as they were when they went in. Wrong wrong wrong , the banana had turned black and was all mushy and the nectarine was well, well its a little hard to talk about really, but, but it was was mutilated beyond recognition.
Couldn't bring myself to eat either one so gave them a decent burial near the top of the maungatap, so if you see a bananarine tree one day when riding near the summit just nod in recognition as you zoom on past. That is all they would have wanted.

Anyway what do you guys do to keep your fruit fresh? maybe a carrot would be a better idea.

    Your thoughts please.
I mentioned vegetables once, but I think I got away with it...........

Buy a Goldwing and get the optional pannier chiller unit fitted.

It pains me to say it, but oranges are an excellent adventure fruit

Apples are ok, if they are in season - best if you pick them from a tree on the side
of some dodgy little gravel road.

Failing that, you could always invest in a banana guard.

Or I could give you a good muesli bar recipe

Possibly ... just possibly the problem was that a nectarine and a banana shouldn't be stored together. I know there is one fruit that gives off a gas which hastens decomposition in other fruits. Can't be arsed researching it though.

You're not supposed to store bananas with other fruit, something in one accelerates the rotting process in the other.

Bananas give off ethylene gas, which is a fruit ripening agent.

There are times when having an agricultural science degree has its uses.

Yes its bananas , thats where the "no bananas in boats" thing comes from cos on long sea journeys the bananas would wreck all the other fruit. But for a half day ride they should be fine as they live together in our fruit bowl for a week with no worries.

shit Argentina just scored against Scotland. Tight game.

Yes, doesn't seem long enough does it? Still, I've known it happen quite quickly.

Suggestion: Freeze the fuckers. Changes the way they eat but I don't mind it.
