Best insurance policies at the moment?

Just looking at my insurance as its jumped quite a bit on this renewal, I am with Vero by way of Golightly and after having an accident last year the new years policy without a no claims bonus has jumped up significantly. I was with Swan via Kiwibike but when I had my last bike the pricing jumped up so much I changed as Vero was cheaper and gave better cover, now Kiwibike's quote has come out $230 less than Vero and Protecta is about the same, I tried State but they are more expensive. Does anyone have any other suggestions that are doing good deals and good cover at the moment otherwise looks like Protecta or Swan maybe better value even tho they don't have as good cover for riding gear.
Kiwibike was always good to deal with it was just price that made me leave, not sure on Protecta does anyone know if they are any good?

Check what gear cover Swan and Protecta offer before you switch. Particularly if you have expensive gear. Some companies only offer up to $1000 to $1500 for gear (my helmet and boots would go over that easily). So while Vero is more expensive their $2500 replacement value for gear means it works out in my favor.

They also have very good multi-bike policies.

Yeh I know Vero's cover for gear is good as I did have to claim 2.5k for gear when I had my accident, the others seem to be in the $500-1000 range but then they are $250-300 a year cheaper. The issue is they quoted over a 1k for insurance and even with dropping the value of the bike a couple of grand it was still over $900 which is a lot of cash for a bit better gear cover.

Getting tired of having to switch insurance companies every few years, seem to be going round in circles with insurance companies, was with Swan then they cranked the prices up so went to Vero now Vero is cranking the prices up and Swan is cheap again. Can't win when it comes to insurance.

I'm with Protecta and my gear might only be worth about 1k for the moment. (which is the cover they give me)

Gives me a towtruck option too for when the hyo wants to give me some grief.(never used it, touch wood)

Fees are like $50 a month. Though it's not worth f'all

I don't bother constantly changing my insurance. Been with Swann via Kiwibike for several years, they've been good with the one claim I've had.

As for Protecta they seem to be a mixed bag. While some have excellent experiences, others have had the very worst, going all the way through the ombudsman etc.

    Im with Aon insurance,
they usually deal with rural stuff farming and what have you but they are pretty good to deal with, they are a broker rather than an insurer,
I pay $364.50 a year for 3rd party fire and theft cover. (excess is really high but I had a claim about 7 months ago, and I dont have the correct legal documents..)
And when i had my old 400 I paid $570 a year for full cover with a $500 excess.

the way it works is, you get a % from each insurer, I.E 55% of my cover is with Vero, 20% is with Swan etc etc.

hmmmm I just had a claim with Vero. I bought a bike for $5000 and insured it for $5000. 1 month later it got written off. Vero said it is worth $4200 not $5000. Minus excess of $200 and the cost of the rest of the year's insurance (10 months worth) deducted, I got $3600. Plus they are still deducting by direct debit, the fortnightly insurance fee for the bike - the payments which has been paid for already (the next 10 months of insurance) when they took it from the settlement amount. So I get to pay twice for a bike that is written off.
    Not that impressed.

When I joined up with Protecta they said my bike was worth 4k (pretty high for a'06 hyo)
Anyway now i've put a fair few more k's on her there is no way it's worth 4k, I need to give them a call and get them to reassess the worth and also update my license details

    Kiwibike.

I found them cheaper than the others and they are very easy to deal with.
The larger companies (AA, State, AMI, Tower, etc) appear happy to charge higher rates... SUBSTANTIALLY higher rates in one case. I wondered how many shares I got in the company with one!

When a vehicle is written off, so is the insurance policy. So the company takes the entire year's premiums when writing it off. If you pay in installments, it means you have to pay the remainder of the premium along with your excess to settle the claim.
Sounds a bit unusual if they have let you continue paying via a debit.
By the way, if you disagree with what they value your bike at, you do have options, such as getting a pre accident valuation.

Kiwibike are Oarsome! They have helped me out with my last few bikes. I now have one bike with Swann and one with Protecta with excellent policies that I am happy with. Hope that the insurance companies are just as good to deal with should I need too!

Both Protecta and Kiwibike are about the same on prices, cover is close though Protecta give more gear cover. NAC just came back with a quote thats quite a bit cheaper than both of them and has $2500 gear cover so thats looking pretty good.
I'm just waiting to hear back from David Golightly and see whats happening with Vero as I'm more than happy to stay were I am but they are so expensive now that I don't have a no claims with them its not funny, the stupid thing is all the others will give me no claims even though I told them I had an accident last year.

Hi l would try going though Swann directly, l was with Swann through Kiwibike insurance but l then got a price straight from Swann and they were heaps cheaper than through a brocker. Although mine are Classic cover it costs me $600 a year for $25,000 cover over the 5 bikes.

But lt gets better the bike l just crashed l had it insured for $5000 and Swann got the market value after the accident of $6000 and they decided to pay me the market value so l bought the bike back and got given $3885 in my pocket,
So l couldnt recommend Swann highly enough

I'm with NAC insurance. They seem good, although I haven't had a claim...yet.
I was with Kiwibike for about a year but then found that NAC was quite a lot cheaper, both premium and excess, included gear cover (up to 1k as I remember) and roadside assistance (5 times a year I think).
Both have been good when sorting the insurance itself, but as I said I don't know about how they are for claiming.
NAC also transferred what I had paid for the whole year for full insurance onto a storage cover insurance and refunded the rest when I went to Aus.
NAC also seem cheapest for my (hopefully) new bike.

They haven't "let" me continue paying it via DD - they have not stopped the DD = they apparently "can't" stop the DD because someone else in another department has to sign it off. SO I am paying extra. I am suprised because when my car was written off, I didn't have to pay any extra to finish the insurance year - maybe when I crashed my car, it happened close to the end of the term?
When I insured the bike, Vero told me to insure it for the purchase price.
