    East Cape ride

Anyone done East Cape ride recently, Opotiki to Gisborne round the Cape, just wondering what condition the roads are at the moment.

Middling crappy. 65 went round on the Grand Challenge a couple of weeks ago, some ride reports on here. Lots of 50kph roadworks between opotiki and Hicks Bay. Some roadworks further around. I'm not really a good person to ask as surface conditions and bumps don't bother the adventure bike much.

If you have to ask, then clearly you don't know the East Cape.

It's always bumpy, and beware the uneven surface signs. Rest of the country it might mean a bump. In that area it means rollercoaster ahead (and I'm not really joking).

The piece of road that disappeared is well... still gone. The inland detour isn't sealed yet and during the day can have delays.

    Otherwise, enjoy!

    East Cape ride

Just completed, the ride this weekend, Opotiki to Gisborne.
Had to wait 20min. for roads works just before Motu, road otherwise good up round to Hicks Bay, then the fun starts, very uneven surface on some corners, didn't affect the GS1150 much at all, but had I been on my sports bike it would be uncomfortable in many places.
Huge amount of 50 & 30km/hr and slippery when wet signs, must have passed 300 if i passed 1
Great ride, good weather, mostly very windy and takes about 6 hours with stops.
    Locals seem all friendly.
Filled up at Opotiki and the gas light was on coming into Gisborne, about 360kms.

Hmmm… pushing the bike for a 100km’s doesn’t sound like too much fun.
I’m sure there is a fuel stop between the two points though.

Any idea on whether or not Gentle Anny is going to be sealed right through?
I’ve heard a large chunk of it has been done.

Gas at multiple points, including Hicks Bay and Te Araroa.

Gentle Annie is sealed, however, some of it is already being resealed...

Sweet, it’s been too long since I was down that way (obviously) I’ll have to make the time and stretch it over a few days.
    Ta for that!
