    More red-light cameras?

Bring it on! THAT is doing something for road safety.

They are going to wait a couple of years until you all know how to use a roundabout first.

Down the one ways they are ok, you can get through the whole city without stopping, which is my preferred way of visiting Dunnedin

A couple of year may be a bit optimistic

Too true. But try crossing the one ways though. Pain in the arse. I am happy to admit that at night I will give up waiting at a red light if there is absolutely no traffic going past and no reason for the light not to be green. They should change, they don't, they're shit.

Mind you, about a third of crashes at signals in Dunedin are caused by proper red light running - high speed and don't care. You made me wonder now whether these are all people heading out of town on the one way and just wanting to get the hell out of there?

Hey I've just had a thought here too. Not sure how many of you have met this situation, but I've had to run a few reds in my life because the earlier "smart lights" don't pickup bikes. These cams don't know circumstance so as well as being unsafe they're going to be an annoyance if ever you are in this situation, do you chance a scam or do you wait another couple hrs for the possibility that a car may show which then you'd have to maneuver to let them in-front of you as most won't pickup the car when it's behind the bike either.

Some quotes for the people who like the idea of Red light cameras from the places that already have them

"Red-light cameras just reward cities for bad engineering,"

"accidents INCREASED at red light camera intersections"
"Halloway had fallen for ATS’ slick sales fantasy of safety and profits and didn’t want to believe the news that could jeopardize the city’s cash cow, “That’s nonsense. Where are you getting your data?” City Councilor Ken Halloway asked. After being shown the data from the city, he still didn’t want to accept the harsh reality
Believe it councilman, your city is just one on the growing list of cities where red light cameras have been proven to be deadly and dangerous:
    Upland, CA
    Peoria, AZ
    Grande Prairie, AB
    San Bernadino, CA
    Costa Mesa, CA
    El Monte, CA
    Loma Linda, CA
What do these cities all have in common? They all have what is referred to as “infomercial syndrome.” The city councils were mesmerized by the incredible claims and smooth presentation… increased safety… easy money… won’t cost you anything… we take care of everything. It’s so easy! Act Now! And just like the consumer who bought an Ab Roller expecting amazing results, these cities are realizing that the claims are all bogus. In reality, the answers are simple, but they are the answers that no one wants to hear. The person who bought the Ab Roller really just needs a trainer and a gym membership. The cities that bought red light cameras need to order an honest traffic engineering study for each problem location and listen the advice of true unbiased professionals"

"Florida Public Health Review published a research paper that concluded the cameras “actually increase crashes and injuries, providing a safety argument not to install them.” In particular, there has been a dramatic increase in rear-end collisions, suggesting that people are slamming on their brakes to avoid a ticket. Similarly, a 2005 Washington Post report found that after the city installed its traffic light cameras, collisions at the camera-equipped intersections went up rather than down. But the cameras brought the city $32 million in revenue. So rather than halting the program, the city chose to expand it."

Having read that?? Lol bring it on, I can just envisage the 'CARnage that would ensue on the Hutt Motorway.... Moral of the story? If ya hit the car in front up the arse? You were too farking close!!! If the drongo's in the USA havent worked this out by now??
Hmmm now transpose those thoughts to the lights at the Haywards or the Totora park lights?? Got a cumfy seat and some popcorn for the show??

Yep an then it'll be wall to wall threads by clowns from Dunedin about "I stopped because I thought the light was going to go Orange "an got run over by six trucks, two cars, an a van full of coconuts!
Damn,it'll be like living in Ponsonby during the 60's all over again.

Most Dangerous time at intersection controlled by lights is the first 3 seconds after the light goes Green in your favour...Remember to take another look just as you go to wheel stand through the lights to beat that plonker next to you cause you are just so quick..you may just see the real plonker sailing through on the Red that he thought he could beat....If this happens to you, chase em down and beat them senseless...just kidding
