    Run north through Rainbow

Gidday fellas. Anybody fancy a ride at DB1k one day ride pace through the rainbow next Saturday? I'm going to be on a bit of a mission to get to NN and besides I need an opportunity to try out the bike out (and my arse) at DB1k one day ride pace. Therefore I'll be doing Chch to NN with minimal stops - gates and a quick bite to eat.

Obviously I'm going right through to NN but if Chch people want to tag along they will probably want to head back when they get to St Arnaud.

Let me know if you are interested in tagging along. I'm getting the key posted down this week.

    Cheers R

Sorry Ryan but Nelson will be closed next weekend as most of the population will be attending the 6hr.
Gonna come along & have a go?

Would have been in for sure but still about 3 weeks from build completion. Cross your fingers for snow melting weather this week, I was up there yesterday for three days fishing in the area. The climb to Island Saddle (south facing side) is waist deep in snow, not passable by 4X4, most likely doable on a bike but would certainly be a mission

Unfortunately not me, I'd have to drag out the unregoed DR to keep up (been noticing a lot of police around lately so no) and I am planning to take the Transalp on the Avon City Suzuki Okains Bay ride and BBQ on Saturday instead.

I should have organised for Friday off work and gone up in enduro mode - next time.

Hmm this doesn't sound good. I spoke with Rainbow's managers yesterday and asked if there was much snow. They said should be fine. Might have to rethink plans.

How fresh is the snow. Old mushy snow could be a bit of fun but few days old snow not so much.

Given snow comment above you might have been even better on the CRF. Might be a change of plan!

Given this I'm going to flag the trip. DOC and Rainbow managers no help but I'm not going to take the risk given I'm probably going to be by myself.

    Sorry fella's trips off.

The snow is from the dump about 11 days ago, it is firm and crusty covering the road on the same angle as the hill so when attempting to get up in a four wheel drive it kicks you off to the right and you start sliding towards the drop-off, not a good feeling! On the right side of the road close to the drop-off the snow is only ½ a foot to 1 ½ feet deep, doable on a bike if you're careful. Over the three-day period it did melt off slightly, if there is no more crappy whether and a couple of warmer days I'd say within the week it should have gone or at least be easily passable
