Looks pretty good. On the surface...

Front page article in today's newspaper, talking about death and injury accidents in the HB region, with breakdowns of where they tend to occur etc. Article finished with the attached.
Two things immediately stood out to me...
    1. Misleading statistics.
Car drivers account for 54% of responsibility, but motorcyclists for just 9% of accidents. Don't congratulate yourselves, though - at only 2% of the motoring public, bikers are well over-represented.
    2. Subtle twisting of words.
The wording suggests that drivers of cars and trucks are not accorded blame - it is the vehicles that are at fault - but in 2 wheeled crashes it is the people that are to blame.

Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

Now now, if I had a car I might be tempted to be a part time rider... very, very occasionally !!

The findings are from 2010, and no doubt include part time riders

It seems that ... maybe ...

    1. Make it easier for under 25's to get a licence ... as they are only 1/3 of the problem ... and require a five child (minimum) in familys ... thus increasing the under 25's on the road. (And making the OVER 25's statistics look better)

    2. Pedestrians be required to pay a registeration fee (with an ACC levy included) Dayglo vest to be worn at all times ... and front and rear lights ON at night

    3. Remove ALL roadside objects ... tree's, houses, signs, etc. ALL signage to be placed 50 metres from the road and large enough to be read clearly from the roadway ...

    4. Increase TRUCK numbers ... (obviously they are not a problem .. but parking spaces big enough MAY be)

    5. Reduce CAR numbers ... (ONE per family should do it)

    6. Bicycles (cyclists ???) be required to be registered ... (With ACC levy included ... with lights ON/DAYGLO vest at all times)

    7. Build more cities and towns ... thus reduce the number of rural roads to crash on ...
When life throws you a curve ... Lean into it ...

    So..

Reading that i formed the following opinion about the most likely scenario for a motorcycle crash in Gizzy area....

Young pissed drivers crash on rural roads by hitting things on the side of the road, due to other cars on the road.

    Sounds about right?
