Getting a Dutchman started racing in NZ?

    Hi all,

I have been motor racing for a while now and have been competing in an amature class here in the Netherlands. As per February 2012 we will be living in New Plymouth and I am trying to look up how and where to join for any trackdays/amature class etc. Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

Also I am trying to find out if it is usefull to bring my bike (not road legal) over or to sell it here (NL) and buy a new one in NZ, but cannot find a site where trackbikes are sold. I did find some via trademe and similar sites, but was hoping for a website or topic a forum somewhere were this was grouped. I have included an example of how this is in the Netherlands, you might not master the language but you get the idea:

    http://www.motor-forum.nl/forum/list...-Gevonden.html

Can someone give me a similar type of website like the one above?

Also I have difficulties trying to understand who is selling trackdays, is this the circuit/track itself or individual organisations. Could you give me some websites where I can book some days.

To give you a bit of an idea what my riding skills are I have attached some pictures and for those who know the Assen TT track, my PB there is 1:54:63

Thanks in advance for the help and hope to meet you one day on the track itself in NZ!

    Cheers
    Frank

Trade Me is the best and there are heaps of people on here that will know about race bikes etc for sale. Sell your bike, you can pick good race bikes up here for F/A.

Raj would sell this for 10k

Hoi Frank, hoe gaart het? Welcome aan Nieuw Zeland.

Great that you are moving to NZ and want to come racing. You have a major problem though. You will be living in New Plymouth. This is not such a good start...

But seriously, NP is a nice place, even if it is a bit out of the way. You won't have time for bike racing because you will be surfing and fishing......

We have some information on our website about racing in NZ:
www.tyrewarmers.co.nz under Racing Resources at the bottom left.

    Also some more info on:
    http://www.vicclub.co.nz/tiki-read_a...?articleId=250
Vic Club (Victoria Motorcycle Club of Wellington) will be your 'local' road racing club. Most racers in NP belong to Vic Club.

Our Ohlins specialist is based in NP.

We have no dedicated racebike sales website here, only this one and TradeMe (our equivalent of eBay).

Actually, while Choppa suggests selling your bike, I would suggest bringing it with you if you are bringing a house lot of stuff with you. I shipped my road bike to the UK and back again when I moved and came back, and it was no problem really. Given that yours is not registered that makes it easier and you should not need to pay GST (VAT) as it is a personal affect.

You know your bike and if you want to keep it that will make things easier for you. Depending on what modifications you have done you will be able to race it in any club race meeting and if only minor mods you might be able to race it in NZSBK meetings.

Heb neer een goede reis en zie spoedig u.

    Choppa & Steve,

Thanks for the info, this does help to get me started indeed!

I will take my own bike over, one reason being that I know it and the other is that I do not find that many in NZ. What search function should I use in trademe, trackbike, circuit bike, race bike?

Could you please give me a website where you purchase items such as quickshifters, stomgrip, tyres (ie race stuff) in NZ, or do most of you buy overseas?

    Cheers,
    Frank

PS, Steve, good job on the Dutch!!

    you forgot RideLife Steve......

Ohlins And RideLife are based in NP.

It should just roll off the tongue together.... 'Ohlins And RideLife are based in NP'.

One day it will be 'RideLife and Ohlins are based in NP'.

    Welcome Frank.
We'll get the Bar-be-qu firing when you arrive, and give you a run down of the local seen.

Hoi Frank. Dank je waal maar ik kan niet veel Nederlands spreken!!

The business that Moto Academy NZ deals with for racing equipment and supplies is www.racesupplies.co.nz
Kevin Goddard is that man there. Started out focussed on 125 racing but he and his riders have all moved onto 600 so he is including all that stuff now as well.
Check him out. Always ready to deal and supply good gear.
He is our local HRC dealer as well.

    Tot ziens
