    GoPro video and editing?

    Hello everybody
I just got this Helmet cam and may need some tips on how to operate it and how to edit the video.....
First video I took today was on setting #4 and played alright with win media player, before editing. Now it won't, it's been edited with win. movie maker which saves it as a funny file type. How do I fix that ?
Also.... It was very jerky when I was editing it and now plays the same way with WMM. Why ?
    Any help would be good

You going to have to give us the specs of your PC... Operating System, CPU type/speed, amount of RAM at least.
You're dealing with HD now so to do it well will need a decent PC and good software.
Win Movie Maker simply may not cut it ?
Jerky playback is often a sign that the PC graphics card or other aspects of the PC isn't powerful enough.

Movie maker will do the trick,
You need to save the file not as a project but you export it to your PC.
I recommend getting something like Sony Vegas to do your editing,
As for the GoPro, on the back of the Cam is shows which setting is equal to what,
    I.E .. R5 (5) = 1080P @ 30fps

I use 3 and it gives good quality and if you upload straight from the editor to youtube it doesnt upload as HD but if you take an HD vid then upload it via the editor, the quality still remains good.

kk basically no matter your OS, this window is similiar, on Vista I think it just says menu, either way it gives you an option to save or save movie as, save it for computer play back then you can just upload it whenever you feel the need, OR you save as high def, BUT in NZ our interwebs suck, so uploading high def will take you like a day haha.

My pc is on 3 ghz and 1 gig ram, slow as fuck but it does it !

Only had mine for about a week now but ...
First advice would be try all the different settings #1 through #4 and make a movie on each to see the difference but #4 i found to be the best shot, wide angle and seems to be more vertical also !

Not sure how you edited it on windows movie maker unless WMMaker let you import the MP4 movies from the camera itself ?
The model i have is the go pro hero motorsport and when i save the raw file to my pc, it's in MP4 format, which windows movie maker won't accept !
Does yours produce the raw file in a different format, or is there a setting I haven't found yet ?
To start with i was converting the raw MP4 file using any video converter (have a read of the cnet editor review here) to convert it to WMV or AVi, before i could edit it on windows movie maker !

But then i found this baby ! Not freeware unfortunately, but it is for 14 days, so gave it a go and well hell, i might just buy it hehe.
Accepts MP4 files and the tricks it has with editing are pretty cool !
Just takes a while to do all the tricks ya will want to lol I only got 3 hours sleep for a few nights there haha.
The high res files (#4 and #5) do playback real slow (like slow motion), on the editor while editing (intill you add an effect such as speed changes or negitive which for some reason then allows it to playback in normal speed), but ya soon get the hang of pausing and starting again to let it catch up.
Havn't tried saving in all the different formats yet but found the preset TV PAL option to be pretty good quality (when ya come to save it, the options come up)

The first vid i did on video pad was a bit all over the place
But got better and better (i feel) with transitions and playing with effects by the second, third and so on, lot more fun than windows movie maker !

But back to the cam, if there is a setting that changes the raw file from MP4 to sommit else, i missed it in the instructions ??
#1 is for low res stuff which will play back ok and not in slow mo, but the res is low and i'm sure you would prefer #4
Changing the back of the housing does make a little difference to wind noise and it is waterproof haha (got a wet arse), films quality suffers with the wet stuff, but ya can still see through it !

Yeah i know new toy, cant leave it alone and have to chuck every one of em up in here !!!

Disclaimer : Videos are compressed to make me look faster than i really am !!!!
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !

Sony Vegas is the best editing software I've tried, and there is a million helpful tutorials online for it too

It even allows a hamfisted fool like myself to bashy somethin together!

PM me for a link to the full "free" version.

Yes, the thing to consider is when it is rendering try and do nothing else with the computer as the RAM maybe be reduced considerably if it is shared RAM and the other is the SD Card. Make sure it is a Class 6 or higher spec card. The GoPro recommends higher class. I have found lower Class 4 may result in jerkiness...

No funny business needed.... I just copy and paste from card to p.c. (mp4) then imported straight to WMM, then it got tricky I'll give this "any video converter" thing a crack, and see what happens

When looking at buying a HD camera the first thing i looked at was software.

    http://video-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

I have ended up with the power director. there might be cheaper but i have yet to find better. so easy to use, it is all drag and drop, massive amount of effects etc and you can upload straight to FB or YT, or produce any format or file type.

Yes it uses a shit load of power and you will either need a new one or seriously update your old one.
