GoPro video and editing?

This needs organisation....... Not my strong point. More worried about busting stuff.
And I find it a bit limiting. I have tried similar, but maybe I should try a lanyard type thing. Also works OK with motocross gloves, but I dont always use them. What you suggest is for slower riding. The trouble for me, is I see some supurb shots at times, but maybe only one or two a day, and to date I have never been set up to get them.

I use an Olympus 1030sw that's 10m waterproof, shockproof etc.
Can use normal gloves.

I was kinda hoping that a simple bolt on would get these, just by pointing my head in the right direction. Wishful thinking I know. Inevitably I am doing 100k's on the open road, or being stupid (read needing to focus) at the time. Capturing a good image with a small apature, on the move, and little planning is always going to be a long shot.

I just point it in the general direction and push the button. No focussing or zooming. Crop and rotate to suit later.


Or when stopped, just the same. No zooming, no focussing...

I am pleased to hear there are some linux editing options tho. We don't have a windows computer in the house any more, and can't afford to be a mac fanboy. Might just buy a second hand one, or borrow one sometime, and see what comes out. May be better than I expect.

Basically I use Digikam for importing and stills and Kdenlive for the video editing. Gimp for heavier photo editing.

If I've got the dSLR with me however, all the above goes out the window.
Zooming, focussing and framing are all the go

When in doubt read the instructions !
In there i'm sure it says "we have sorted it" or words to that effect !
The door with the holes has LESS wind noise ! The other one is for when it's raining !!!!

Other thing is (if ya gonna use the freeware) anyvideoconverter settings i have found the best are (and i may be bettered here (god willing) )

bitrate 12000
video framerate 25

Working for me and best picture i've found there !!!

Those are really good results. You got me. That is the kind of thing I am keen on. Can't argue with what works.

Thanks for the tips on apps in that "other" OS as well. Liking that idea a lot more than a GoPro now. Never done any heavy photo editing, but we have a guy at work who knows photoshop. I am sure he will tell me the buzzwords to look for in the GIMP.

It is a contour HD - no not a GPS model, not water proof or bash proof, just a cheapo basic model.
Anyone had experience with them? i figure if it's not that good the lil ponies can use it to play with.

They go ok.
Easier to line them up with the lasers.
Torpedo7 do a waterproof case for them.

I can't be bothered, I have a couple of hours of video already that I haven't even looked at . It's probly good if your doing lots of interesting stuff, like riding through forestry roads/trails and going up and down steep gnarly hills, which I enjoy occasionally, I'd also have to spend more time in front of a computer editing and get a faster processor to make it not such a painfull process.
I'd rather put the funds into a decent intercom system

yeah I'm thinking along the same lines really. I would prob use mine for MTBing as the action is shorter, more exciting & usually in cooler tighter environents. As we have seen steepness is really lost on videos.
I think the editing would be the fun part. No more of 10 secs a clip I reckon.
Anyway we'll see. i'll try one tomorrow

I went crazy at the camera store yesterday.

Bought a Hero HD 2 Motorsport kit, LCD back, 32gb Class 10 card, spare battery and a replacement lens kit for the Hero HD.

I might even get the 3D kit now I have two of them.

Unfortunately it's apparently not possible to use the Hero with the Hero2 in the 3D system, you've gotta have two of the same model, at least according to GoPro... In fact, I'm not sure they've released the firmware update yet to allow the Hero2 to be used with the 3D system.

Having said that, since the 3D kit is just a casing to hold a pair of them with along with a synchronization cable, I guess all you'd have to do to composite them is manually sync up the videos.
