NZ team smash Motorcycle sidecar speed record

A team of New Zealanders have smashed the 19 year old sidecar speed record. Glenn Hayward piloted the 1,000cc bike, with a 60kg weight in the sidecar, clocking a two-run average top speed of 272kmh (179mph).

As an FIM steward was present, the record is being recognised as official, but still needs to be scrutinised and ratified by an FIM panel later this year. Once that is done, Phil Garrett, who lead the team, said he would look at applying for a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
