It's good to see TV3 giving that guy Garrett (Steve?) coverage on his sidecar record attempt. 224 km/h in testing so far without the bodywork. He's aiming for 320 k's on a public road. He said that he almost had seagull mash on one run.

Speed doesn't kill people.
Stupidity kills people.

Maybe I am expecting too much, but it doesn't sound that fast for a land speed record ? 224kph is only about 140mph, granted he's got the chair to lug around, and its drag factor. Still would have though someone with a fueller Vincent or something could have reached that in the fifties or sixties .Originally Posted by placidfemme
All props to him though , and his passenger. Wouldn't care to do it m'self.

Well next Monday is the day they see if it all works as it should, with road closures in place for the week to give them a few spare days if something turns to custard
Talked to Phil last night and asked him if it was all good?
No it isn't he replies we just got the new bodywork delivered and it doesn't fitbut there's 5 guys out in the shed working on it from now until it's fixed
Last few runs at Wigram last week they were running it up to 220 odd kmh and still not getting out of 4th as they didn't have the room
Kickaha, do you (or anyone else) know where and when the run on Monday is due to happen and if the "public" can get to see any of it. I am off work then and could be good to see history in the making. Their web page could do with a bit of an update, but I suppose they have been busy elsewhere.Originally Posted by Kickaha

Wish him all the best for the next run, TV should cover more record attempts like this, people might try harder to beat them.![]()

Already given Phil some grief about his webpage he said the guy that built it has dissapeared and they have no one else to update it, so he's looking for a volunteer
Yep. Saw the item on TV. Man, than bike sounded nice!
Good luck to them.
Grow older but never grow up
First runs were done today, unfortunately there was a problem with the timing gear and it didn't work due to a fault with the cable between the timing beacons
They did however run it up to 250kmh but due to problems with the canopy it wasn't fitted and at that speed some instability developed
TV3 news tonight there will be a little bit about it
