I will say 1.5mts...any further and (if you're in a car) you would be across the centre line.
I give Online polls as much credit as I do the Mana Party.

I live out at Beachlands and there is always a bunch of sicklists hogging the roads....I like to sneek up on them by pulling in the clutch and then when I get close I accelerate hard past them full noise with the Yoshimuras blaring...they shit themselves

Fascinating. This has been advertised on TV heaps. Prime time telly too.

The power of advertising eh? Food for thought for future safety campaigns but I guess if something is shown enough we become immune to it's message.

Perhaps the advertising worked. More than 80% got it right.

Nah, I reckon they just picked the most logical/guessable distance to set it to.

I think you're supposed to read the roadcode before sitting the test. If you don't know that what else don't you know (care about)? Scarey!

...damnit!....I thought it was drop a gear, gun it, and scare them off the road completely! (there failure to move results in 50 points for a clean hit )

Next thing ya know they will expect us to give way to them to! (...Ive got that wrong as well havnt I)

    1.5m in a 2.6m wide lane......
Then I could get a Kb Tshirt, move to Timaru and become a full time crossdressing faggot

Yeah sorry ...drop down a peg...anyway why do they think they ride around two abreast, on winding country roads and expect not be considered a hazard let alone a pain in the arse.....

    Bugger!.....Hate wearing this hat!

As for two abreast, agree!, its bloody dangerous on twisty roads etc, they have every right to use the road, but I wish they were held to the same standards as the rest of us (Don't see many other road users running red lights etc like bikes do....they just whip around the courners red light or green...scares the shit outta ya!)

Our policy is to decrease the passing limit of cyclists to 0.5 in the hope that it will lessen the PPP (peddle power population) on our roads.

It just seems like they think there is an invisible force around them that protects them from harm...!!! 0.5mm of spandex , a polystyrene helmet, arms and legs with no hair won't save em...

while the answer is 1.5m this is not law. The lycra brigade keep trying to get it law but for now it is only recommended.
The legal distance (unfortunitly) is "as long as you don't hit them" and I doubt we'll ever be able to get it to -1m, some people seem to have issues with that
