Cycling Advocates Network spokesman Patrick Morgan said ... "While riding two abreast is legal, cyclists need to show courtesy to other road users. This means riding in single file on busy roads.

Well, that would make a change. Not as if the psyclists will take a bit of notice though.

Can anyone actually find the road code that says that you must give 1.5m to cyclists?

Because I can't. So why is it in a road code quiz?

Yes. It's in the book "The Official New Zealand Road Code for Motorcyclists" and also "The Official New Zealand Road Code for Car Drivers". Which is where the questions come from.

    At this site I found:

    http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/ro...-cyclists.html

"Ideally, allow at least 1.5 metres between you and the cyclist."

Ideally to me is not a very good 'legal' word.

Thats because it's not a legal obligation, just a recommendation & the test does word as such. I believe it asks similar to "What is the recommended distance you should allow when driving past a cyclist?"

There is nothing in the actual highways act that says there in a minimum distance you have to give cyclists however 1.5 is in the road code. Two different things.

But y’know, I just don’t get the rage and vitriol. Sure some cyclists can be annoying as they flaunt some road rules, groups of cyclists really piss me off when they take up the entire lane, but the reality is, it does us in our cars or on our bikes no real harm. It’s like car drivers trying to stop bikers filtering at the lights. Zero impact to the driver but some of them go ballistic and in doing so put me on my bike in real danger.
Just chill and give them some space

The scratch and win learners tests aren't based off the law though, they're based off the official rode code books.

Just like how you can fail your practical tests for not keeping both hands on the wheel etc.. It's not a law as far as I am aware. As long as you are still driving safely.

Wow, I have definitely seen the parked vehicle rule not being followed.

I've honestly never seen it. Of course I don't watch TV, too many ads. I do watch TV programs, just not on TV and not with ads and often within a day or 2 of the US or UK air date.
