This may well be an urban legend kind of story, but there’s enough merit for me to think it’s possibly true and I love the story regardless… but the vid reminds me of what I’ve heard about Eddie Irvine.

Apparently when he was driving for Jaguar he was looking for some opportunities to race outside F1, knowing he was nearing the end of that career. The Ford ties of his current team allowed him to hook up with the Ford WRC team and get a test drive of the Ford Focus WRC car. Colin McRae was their driver at the time and offered to take Eddie for a quick spin to show him the basics of rallying. Colin was well-known for driving on the very limit or often beyond it and, in typical style, took Eddie out on the demo lap and drove at 11/10ths. When the car return to the pits, legend is that Eddie got out of the co-driver’s seat and said “Fuck that, that guy is a fucking nutter, I’m not fucking doing that”. And that was the end of that.
