And if not served, they go away after two years.

Way better than fines which just get bigger, and fuck up the aussie holiday.
I'm pretty sure you'll find that your demerits now keep adding up and never get wiped unless you serve your 3 months disqualified period, and even then any left over stay on your record.
So if you have a thousand....your fucked!
I'm more fearful of demerits as they can cause me to loose my licence/job.
    Fines?......Stick it on the tab.

You drive legally till served. If never served, they go away. Ring them and ask. I wont hang my hat on the two years, maybe its more than that.

On the other hand, they can serve you on the side of the road, and that can be bloody inconvenient. And if you have any credit, the police and NZTA may not know your real address, but Veda do, and they will help out.

Best you dont speed, or follow the police, who always plead not guilty, regardless of the crime. Maybe you win the odd one.

Of course you might end up being 'served' at the side of the road when the cop discovers you are "Wanted for Service of Suspension Notice"...

    Sorry.....

A licence suspension for accumulating 100 demerit points to only reduce the total demerit points by 100, and not remove all active demerit points on the licence. These will remain active for up to two years.

Yup - if your nice the cop will probably follow you home before serving the notice.

If you're like some of the key-board tough-guys on here you would probably talk the cop into serving the notice on the spot.

With a bit of luck it wil be in the middle of nowhere on a wet night to give you time to contemplate a nicer approach to people..that is if these key-board tough-guys are a tough as they make themselves to be....

I'm sure I read that urban legend somewhere too. Demerits still drop off after 2 years. I had 35 drop off last October and another 35 in April this year and I now have 40.

    Worry not citizens.

If your points reach 100, a little red flag lights up on the NZTA computer. 3 months of not driving.

Then if your points drop off, the red flag still exists. You'll have to serve the 3 months at some stage.

    Bad luck.

Don't do the crime, and you won't have to do the time. It's called deterrence. Talk it up, it increases the paranoia, and increases the deterrence.

Two years from the date of the LAST demerits awarded ...

In other words ... two years demerit free ...

    Wrong!

I accumulated 20 in February which took me to 55 (cop told me, but I knew anyway). I phoned in April to check my 35 had been wiped. They had and I was told I had 20.

I recall that hoax starting here on KB
