The good bit is ... with the new laws ... those demerits you have OVER the 100 you "need" to lose your licence with ... you STILL have when you get your licence back ... They are not ALL wiped ...

Yep, and then once you've done your time, you have to front up with more cash to get your licence back. Even after only 3 months loss of licence.

    What am i missing here?
How does one not get served- by moving around & living under a bridge? handing over your twin brother/sisters licence every time you get pulled over?
    Obviously not speeding

Also to clarify - If I have 120 points & don't get served, then after 2 years from the latest infringement ALL my points would be wiped or would the 100 points still be sitting there waiting for me to hand over my licence for 3 months...

I believe the points have since expired but the notice to suspend your licence is still active, similar to a Warrant to Sieze or Arrest.

ONLY 100 points are wiped AFTER your 3 month disqualification ... the rest (any more you may have) you now KEEP ... untill your next 3 month loss ...

They will find you ... eventually .... something to look forward to ... Mail ...

You just do what I did when I was young and dumb.
Don't answer the door, eventually they give up coming to your house.
Don't get caught breaking the law, then you can hand it in when YOUR ready.

back in the day I avoided it for three years, and in that time racked up 380 points.
when I finally decided to get my shit together i done the three months DQ and all my points were wiped
    Let the flaming begin

Read the Act concerned ... Thats for a SINGLE offence ... Only

2 or more offences ... and it's the date from the commision of the most recent offence ...

Scroll down to section 91 (1)

And it lists ANY amendments to the Act at the bottom of the sections (section 88/89/90/91 are interesting too ...)

    http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/p...&p=1#DLM435011

And interestingly ... Section 88 (4) with NO amendments ... states quite clearly ...

Demerit points recorded under subsection (1) have effect on and from ... the date of the commission of the offence for which the points are recorded

Yes, if you managed two years without either being served with the disqualification, or amassing any more demerits, you are in the clear.

Its not a mistake by the powers that be though.

If you have managed to get 100 points in two years, and then you manage to change your driving style so dramatically that you don't even get pulled over for the next two, the demerits have changed your attitude.

And thats what they are supposed to do.
