No, only ridden on a track once (with Crasherfromwayback but he won't remember me). I did used to jump out of planes quite a lot and it was the adrenaline/rush whatever you want to call it that kept me doing it, as well as keeps me riding the bike. I'm not talking about "oh my God I'm going to die" moments, I try my best not to have them, but I do enjoy getting off the bike with a big grin on my face. I have never had that on four wheels, and on the bike, like skydiving, it isn't a common occurrence, but it keeps me sane.
yes i hear what you saying mate yes agree 100 % with you just ride inside your limits is all dont try push it to far
bit fear is good reminds us when to stop but just dont ignore the signs is all not syaing dont have fun trills though
id be last person to say that. i for one should in therory not go back to motorbikes as am 48 and have 18 month old son and
another on the way , but something telling me to get back into it and go with my gut instinks as happy dad is happy husband too
but i going be carefull though i got to be around for my family its my job
I 100% believe that adrenilin/rush that you are talking about are two completely separate things commonly understood as the same thing. Some people actually are "Adrenalin Junkies" and these are the type of people who like the thought of cheating death. The fact that you jump out of planes doesn't mean you are this type of person persay. If you jumped out of planes without wearing a chute and attempted to put it on as you were free falling with imminent death if you failed...this would then put you in that class. Like the "Closer to the Edge - 3DTT" movie where they describe the difference between 'track racing' and 'Isle of Mann TT Racing' as rock climbing with the safety harness (track racing) vs without (Isle of Mann). I like the safety of track racing and this is why I would never race at Isle of Mann. I know other people are different and need this danger aspect to get the same fulfillment as I get by my means. These type of people lean more towards adrenalin junkies but still not 100% there as they still need the bike for the thrill.
I would classify myself as an 'action junkie' because I like the rush of facing a challenge and working at bettering myself at whatever I am doing. Like you I enjoy flight as I have my pilots license. People who know me properly know I prepare well for whatever challenge I am about to do. I do EVERYTHING I possibly can to ensure I do not get a shot of adrenalin while completing the challenge. If I succeed in doing this, it is then I get most enjoyment. I am not an adrenalin junkie but I like the rush and excitement.
Always thought of myself as a dopamine addict. Gave up jumping when I no longer got the rush from a normal jump, and had to start cutting corners or pushing things to get it back. Not likely to end well. But it was legal, which brings us back on topic. Invariably, when I do take my helmet off and have a big grin or am gibbering like an idiot it is because of something that happened that more than likely was not in full compliance with a particular law or two. I value my licence so it is a balancing act every time I ride – feeling alive vs licence preservation vs chance of getting hurt. I’m obviously getting old because my decisions have changed over the years, I haven’t even redlined my latest bike in top gear yet and rarely go over 160km/h, which in the UK was the point where ‘speeding’ started. The big change, and one that relates to this thread, is that I don’t race on the road. To make sure I’m not tempted I never ride with other people - I have never seen the point of riding with others unless you were having a race to be honest anyway.
If there was a race track within 15 minutes/half an hour of Dunedin then I would probably get my two wheel kicks on it. There isn’t. So I will have to continue getting my fix of whatever we call it on the road being mindful of Police enforcement, negative public reaction and the fact I want to come home to the kids every night.
Some won’t like it but hey, we all ride for different reasons.
Found this vid not long ago. Shows a bit of the spirit behind sportbiking on the road. A year ago I wouldn't have identified with these people as I didn't ride. Now things are different. The drive to develop your skill, to ride a sportbike better, to touch the knee down on faster corners etc almost causes a gravitation by default to the types in the vid.
