Is it just a coincidence that the tough guy weekend warriors are happy to ride like lunatics on the road but the pro/semipro/amateur racers all support taking it to the track? Just because your prepared to take a bigger risk than the guy behind you doesn´t mean your a faster/better rider.

I'm always dismayed at how many motorcyclists are all too quick to wash their hands of any responsibility when things turn to shit for one of their ride members - even though they have been completely aware of the competitive nature of that ride that has led to someone pushing past their own skill level.

I can only assume that they either a) have no conscience or b) don't like what their conscience is telling them.

Actually it was my fault swbarnett.

I have added Katmans post because he is right on the money, you are correct of course in saying my friend could have said no....we specialized at saying no to challenges at 16 yrs of age

I was the most experienced rider out of our group, my friends only had a year or two riding experience, I had been riding and racing since I was 8.....so I was the one to beat in our group...and the one with the competitive nature!

The responsibility WAS mine....to control the ride...the speed of the group...and myself!

I failed in these things, and my best friend died as a direct consequence.
I talked him into going for a ride....and I, the most experienced of the group, had picked the road...the speed...and was right up his bikes arse pushing him....right up to the moment that he lost control.

So the responsibility to stand in front of his family and explain what happened and to try and apologize...was mine and mine alone.

I shared my experience in the hope that just ONE of the younger riders on here reads it, and sees the real price you can pay for "fun"....is just not worth it...this IS the result & cost of illegal road racing!

Thank you for doing so. I imagine it can't be easy.

Your original post read somewhat differently to me. Given what you've just said it does sound to me like you were in the position of a mentor to a certain extent.

Take them to a race track...where there are no limits other than your skill and nut sack size...and the very same 'street racers' all of a sudden ride like faggots. Because they're not actually good riders at all. Just fuckwits. What you may call "not slow or a pussy" on a racetrack is to certain people just that.

How do I know so much? Easy. I've luckily been around long enough to see first hand hundreds of examples of riders and racers both good and bad.
at the end of the day thou a track only has a certain number of corners, so.. if you end up going around it enough you will get faster its not rocket sicence.. it doesnt make you a bike god cause your fast on a track, or think your fast on a track,
iv ridin with fast track racers here in chch and have done for years, id love to have the coin to have a race bike that i could thrash out the track and not care if i bin it and have some one teach me how to ride cause im crap at it, lol, , but sadly i dont so il have to keep riding on the road for now, till i win lottoo anyway

Yeah even though what I've said ain't rocket science, I can see you're struggling with it.

And I can't for the life of me recall saying being fast on a race track makes you a 'bike god'.

What I did say, was most racers and ex racers know better than to ride like a total fuckhead on public roads/streets.

Fucking hell. You're obviously way smarter than I thought. You're 100% correct about me and my ability, as well as the various bikes I've raced.

He'd piss all over you at the track without even raising a sweat and probably while riding a bike 1/2 the size of yours

Probably even while riding a bucket

The word somewhat is misrepresented in this sentence..

You haven't been riding long have you? I ask because you are clearly a person who cannot FEEL what their bike is doing under them. Which is, in essence the ABSOLUTE key to riding a bike fast. No amount of laps will make up for not having the ability.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Thanks for that, I haven't laughed so hard in years.

Crasher might not have the titles that Andrew Stroud does you bell end, but he is one qualified mother fucker none the less. If he gives an opinion on a riders ability or makes a statement (such as he did), that you disagree with, keep your trap shut, you are likely (and definitely in this case) wrong!
