BMW parts?

Being the new owner of my first airhead, an R80, I'm looking for a parts supply to help with the general tidying up that it needs. I tried BMW NZ but had to have a lie down after that enquiry and to date I have Motobins in the UK and BMWbikes in Blenheim as looking like reasonable pricing.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

There is also motorworks in the uk or you could join up to the ''Kiwi airheads" register [kiwiairheads.co.nz] there are heaps of parts links on there.

I've still got the KTMs for the serious stuff but I needed a bit of a project.

Thanks Graham, the 80 was in reasonable nick when it was put off the road but 12 years of sitting haven't helped, lots of peripheral stuff to tidy up but the basic mechanics seem good. I'm making lists of stuff to do to get it back on the road and then a list for next winters strip down, gulp!

a nice pair of slippers, flat cap and a pipe....

Experience BMW probably is not the best place to look for airhead bits.
I use Motobins and sometimes Ebay.
You probably need: a set of IKON shocks, fork brace, 36 mm Dellortos, clipons, rearsets, single seat, and some upswept Norton style peashooters.
If its got mag wheels ignore the above comments as mags are yuk.

www.motorworks.co.uk plus the other reccomened places on here I have always had good experiences with. Also www.bobsbmw.com and capitalcycle.com in USA but not used them much in last couple of years. I think I once maybe bought a spare pannier key from BMW NZ, the price was ok.....

After sitting for so long I would replace the pushrod rubbers, rear main seal and the two on the timing cover just to be sure. They might not leak straight away though but it is on the cards after a 12 year rest. The pushrod rubbers are renowned for going hard over time and weeping, you can replace them without disturbing the head gaskets which is a cool feature of the BMW boxer. An uncool feature of the BMW boxer is having externally sealed pushrods unlike more superior pushrod twins..

Like others have said, beware of buying parts straight from BMW unless you won the lotto

OHV was superceded by OHC on a motorcycle in the 1920's by Norton....but good on BMW and Guzzi for using it on their shaft drive tourers

It was a cool feature on cast iron head Triumphs too. I doubt they did it on purpose,just a good accident of fate.

I think you use Selotape or something, bloke in the northern Waikato 'recons you can but then I'm not a good listener or rememberer.
Some say he can lazic your eyes back to 20/20 with the glare from his mufflers...

sheezz...why didn't you say that in the first post....it must be true. Some say he even polishes his steely gaze...and the glint off the mufflers can be seen as far as the hills.....
