    Petrol leaking

    Type: 125cc scooter

Since i never used kick start on my bike, i thought i might give it a try.

The problem is when ever i top up petrol, it leaks little bit at the bottom (middle) of the bike.

I'm assuming this is because somehow i messed up with the kick start or is it just a bike problem. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Are you sure you're not overfilling the fuel tank?

Where exactly is it leaking from? Is it leaking from the fuel tank, fuel filter, carby, or somewhere else? If you can find out the source of the leak then it's much easier to give you any help, otherwise I'm just taking a stab in the dark.

I would bet money it is not a kick-start issue ... the overflow from the fuel tank is (usually) via a short rubber hose exiting at the lower middle of the bike (ok... scooter)

If this rubber hose is no longer connected to the tank (or missing)... the excess fuel will (usually) find its OWN way to the ground ... not a GOOD option by the way ... over and through electrical connections ...

Try NOT filling it completely full on the next fill.

Use a lit match for light to find the source of the leak. Problem solved.

My bike leaks a slight amount of petrol. Have taken it to Boyles here in Wellington a few times and John Boyle had the same issue with one of his, well all of his actually. The only solution has been not to use the bike which rather defeats the object of having it but I'm content to allow this small leakage of some 6/7 L per 100k for the absolute estactic pleasure i get from riding a 17 year old dunger

On your particluar problem, as mentioned above it would help to know where its coming from. If you have an oldish bike (sorry Scooter) you may find the rubber drain tubes for the carbs or tank hardend with age and so prone to leaks. Again as mentioned above it's doubtful the kick start is the problem, more like a drain tube has been disturbed.

Good luck and let us know how you are getting on.

PS some bike shops, especially the old fashioned ones, may not charge for just having a quick look, or someone with bike knowlege might be in your area could do the same.
