    Wellington Parking

Sorry if this is a repeated topic

So I got a ticket the other weekend. I parked my bike at the bicycle barriers on courtney place and got laid with a $40 "obstructing the footpath" fine. Really, I would have come under the assumption that if a bicycle is allow to park there, why not a motorbike? And with a 20+ metre wide footpath , its hardly obstructing. A friend of mine got the same ticket. He managed to talk to the warden who issued it, he couldnt get out of the fine, but when he asked if he could leave it there for 20 more mins so he could finish lunch the warden replied "Sure, its not blocking anything"/

As a car driver, I get annoyed when I see motorbikes parking and taking up a carspot. But now I'm understanding that pretty much we have to park in car parks.

Are there any formal rules listed somewhere on parking in NZ? Do we have to pay coin operated if we park in council pay park carparks?

The best rule I have gathered so far is .. park where wardens don't walk.

NZ wide refer to road code. Parking on footpaths is a no no although the definition of footpath can get interesting. If you want to argue it you will probably have to take it to court as there is no incentive for the company that issues and responds to write ins on Welling City Councils behave to let you off. Wellington City Council did have their wardens leaving warning notices for a while but have now gone to ticketing.
Down Courtenay Place there are motorcycle parks near by. Heck if you use the ones across at Wellington Motorcycles you might even get a cup of coffee, so rumour has it, but be warned you could end up with a new bike.
As for pay and display I Wellington City council has a by-law against bikes using that as there is meant to be no where to display the coupon. Last I heard they were looking to change this.

Love it. Fight that shite, maybe it'll make it too expensive to enforce if everyone did?

I would argue entrapment for shits in giggles after all they put a cycle barrier there to entice people to park their cycles, at which you parked your motorcycle only to be hit with a "obstructing the footpath" sounds like a clear case of entrapment to me if it's "obstructing the footpath" the cycle parks shouldn't be there in the first place
