    Great Barrier riding?

    Hi all

This is possibly a stoopid question, but is it Great barrier island a decent place for riding? is there much in the way or roads of any kind?

Just watching a rerun of the two local chefs and they are on the barrier, thought it looked interesting

    thanks
    Tracy

Mount Motorcycles ran an organised trip out there last year and are doing the same this year as they had such a good time last year. Well worth the trip I hear.

Theres a little bit of tarseal out there and plenty of gravel. About 10 hours on the ferry one way. Definately worth it, make a weekend of it, and at least you can say you done it

    Great Barrier Adventure Ride Weekend

    GREAT BARRIER ISLAND RIDE
Following the success of the last trip we have decided to organise another weekend away to Great Barrier Island this
    November.
Last time we had a great group of people who loved the getaway to the remote, untouched beautiful island paradise and
everything that Great Barrier Island has to offer. Hopefully we can have just as much fun this year but without the
    Westpac helicopter!
A lot of the roads on this trip will be narrow and metal, therefore this ride is best suited to "GS" type bikes. We will also
be hiring a van for sightseeing which could meet up with the riders for lunch.
    DATES
Ferry cross over: Friday 18th November at 9.30am
Return: Sunday 20th November at 3.00pm (arrive in Auckland at 7.30pm)
    The ferry timetable has changed and the latest sailing on the Friday is now 9.30am. This leaves us with two options;
either depart Mount Motorcycles at 5.30am Friday morning or stay in Auckland on the Thursday night. We will decide
this once we have confirmation of bookings (I will handle both the lodge and ferry bookings).
    ITINERARY
    Friday:
9.30am - Ferry departs from Sea Link Terminal (Western Viaduct on Jellicoe Street, Auckland CBD).
2.30pm – Ferry arrives on Great Barrier Island. Proceed to Aotea Lodge (10 minutes away). Once we have settled in
we can have the rest of Friday free to explore Tryphena village.
Dinner any time at the Irish Pub.
    Saturday:
Breakfast can be either in your units or at a local café.
10.00am - Ride departs and minivan sets off for a day of
    exploring.
    Lunch at Whangaparapara.
    4.00pm – return to lodge.
7.00pm – Dinner at Tipi and Bob’s restaurant.
    Sunday:
Breakfast can be either in your units or at a local café.
Last time a few organized a fishing charter while some did some
    more exploring on their bikes.
3.00pm - Ferry departs (arriving in Auckland at 8pm).
    FERRY COSTS
    Return fare for Bikes $100.00
    Return fare per person $127.00
If we can manage a group booking of more than 10 we will have a
20% discount off the above prices. A 50% deposit is required at
    the time of booking.
