Pixie asked a question about the southern end of the ride previously, but I can't find it using "search".
Shows up in Google though...

There is a grey blur, and a green blur. I try to stay on the grey one. - Joey Dunlop
Almost all sealed , little bit of gravel north of Awakino but easily doable on a road bike.
Well worth doing.
Yip, done it a few times. The last time was about a year ago, maybe longer. About 16 kms or so of gravel road on the southern end. Not bad. About half is hard packed and the other half was a tiny bit lose. I've always done it on a Daytona but they're well know to be able to handle off roading easy-peizzy![]()
I did it on me SVS when I had it. Didn't fall off in the gravel even though it had just been graded and was thick as pig-shit all over the road.
Helluva lot of fun once you're souf of the gravel though...
