I've emailed Jason Hope at ACC about the advertising, and suggesting that promoting the use of ordinary denim for safety clothing is inappropriate.

my understanding was that a fixed portion of the ACC being levied on all motorbikes was going towards this safety business, $10 per bike per year or whatever. the rest of your excessive charge is (in theory at least) being used to somewhat offset the amount of money being spent on patching up people falling off their bikes during the coro GP and so on.

so complaints about 'my' money being spent on 'their' advertising seem somewhat uninformed.

while im generally dismayed by the lack of gear most scooter riders wear, some part of me rebels at the idea of no more office girls in short skirts on scooters :P

although, i did pull up at the lights the other morning next to a nice young lady on a street magic wearing close fitting gear.

Quite a lot of people I know, all of whom own bikes bigger than 250, also own a scooter. Some of them even own mopeds.

A litre bike parked downtown on the footpath right outside the bank might attract unwanted attention. A moped may well be ignored.
After all it's waaaay smaller than those bloody mobility scooters some of my contemporaries drive...

If the ads are aimed at scooter riders duelling with traffic in the city's then a better form of protection would be MX armour especially elbows, wing mirrors hurt like hell after the second or third in a row.....

Many (most?) of the other scooters I see in my commute are school kids. In the summer it's shorts or skirt and sandals.

Some cyclists wear riding gear and change when they get to work, but it would take a real culture change to get pubescent scooterists to do likewise. Or even for the thought to occur to the teachers, let alone the kids...

Saw a guy on a sports bike last Friday evening on Gt Nth Rd with full-face helmet, leather armoured jacket and beach shorts!

Went from Gore to Tapanui(43kms) and back once on a FA50 on a scorching hot day in full leathers,couldnt get the damn thing to go fast enough to cause a good breeze.Man I looked cool though.

plenty of cyclists go faster than most scooters, never seen any in leather or denim yet. Maybe scooter riders should wear lycra, coz those cyclists are invincible
