    Engine mileage

    Hi...
What would be the avarage mileage that can be exspected
    from a 600 / 650 single 4 stroke....
When I say avarage... a bike thats been looked after but
used... might have missed the odd oil change / air filter
not as clean as it could be etc... but not abused...
    I'm looking at a 05 XT600 with 43,000 on it...

Dose anyone on here own it ??
    Pete

90% of all Harleys built are still on the road... The other 10% made it back home...
Ducati... Makeing riders into mechaincs since 1964...

I had an XT 350 with 79'000 miles on it. Ran absolutely peachy despite being thrashed everywhere. It did have regular servicing though.

    The key to success!
There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won't. We should come home from our adventures having faced their perils and uncertainties, endured their discomfort and beaten the odds, with a sly acknowledgment and revitalised solidarity of character.

Loads of these around with well over 80,000km on them, many were rental bikes in NZ.
Just look out for flogged out 5th gear, often need replacing around 80-100,000 km.
Bit gutless overtaking at highway speeds, otherwise very reliable.

I would be very happy if my KTM gets anywhere near that high kms without half a dozen rebuilds

Depends if you're off-road racing for that distance, or adventuring it. Plenty of advers get that sort of mileage out of them with no rebuilds, no gearbox grief sans-cushdrive etc etc..
    Cheers,

Bit OT but I've scored an early LC4 cush rear wheel (thanks to Underground) and plan on finding out how many KM I can get from mine. LC4 wheel slotted straight in. Only PITA is the 3 tooth different sprockets which mean adjusting the chain tension bolts every wheel change. My arse is going to take a pounding in the process.

Now - just need to find a way to make more hours in the day.

    Cheers R

I did lots of research not so long ago, looking at moving to an RFS from the LC4. Durability didn't seem to be an issue for the sort of kays put on most adventure bikes.
    Cheers,
    Colin
