First post and first crash

Hi,

I'm Andy, a 28 year old Brit living on the North Shore. I've had my learners about 9 months and I've been lurking on the forums for just as long. Up until today I've been riding a shiny red 1989 Suzuki Bandit...

I could do with some more help as I just got rear ended by some idiot car driver who drove off without even talking to me. I'm fine but the rear of my bike is all compressed and the chain is rubbing against the frame.

I got the cage's registration number so the cops will find the driver, right??? Is a bent frame even repairable?

Keep me posted..do you have full insurance? My wife had a hit and run about 2 months ago in our car, 3rd party, and we're still fighting with the police to get the drivers /owners details (insurance company won't do anything till we know whether the driver was insured or not)

Do you have insurance? If so, report it to them.

You also need to report the accident to the police, yes, the police should track down the owner using the plate, then the owner is required to state who was driving at that time, place etc. Driver would most likely be charged for leaving the scene of an accident, among other things (probably failure to stop short)

Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you're OK.

I'd get the coppers involved.....we had some muppet hit and run on my wife and kids earlier this year...fortunately some nice road workers witnessed the whole thing and got rego/description/etc.

Insurance is all sorted.....but unfortunately the cops weren't keen on doing much about it....even though there was an opportunity for them to make money from both a careless/reckless driving ticket, leaving the scene of an accident, and/or hit and run.

Hopefully your experience with the police goes better than ours.

And hopefully you're back on your bike quickly.

Crappy having that as a first post but welcome to the nut house anyhow. Report it to the cops and give them the cages rego but you can also try the Post Shop, will cost you a few $, not many, and you can find the registered owners details.

Report to the police, get the guys name and address then you can give that to your insurance company and get the ball rolling.

Thanks for all the advice and offers of help!

I limped across to Holeshot Suzuki and the guys there fixed me up for free. Turns out that my chain rubbing against the frame was more likely caused by my crappy maintenance and I only noticed it when I checked my bike over after the crash.

Still reported the idiot to the cops, what kind of jerk causes an accident and then doesn't even stop to check if anyone is hurt. The police lady said they will send me something in the post if/when they investigate.

I've been a bit of a lone wolf up till now, but I'll definitely check out NASS.
