Adventure helmet v road helmet?

I was told that for a sit up riding position, these Adventure helmets are supposed to be better than the more rounded front road helmets. I assume the guy ( who knows everything about everything) was talking about wind noise/buffeting etc.

Has anyone found them better, worse than a standard road helmet design?

The average adv style helmet would be unlikely to be better in terms of wind noise & buffeting than a good road lid. I don't find a big difference in that between my Airoh S4 adv & my KBC TK8 road lids but the KBC isn't that quiet a helmet. Where the adv helmets win is in airflow, field of view & having a peak.

Adventure helmets are more prone to wind noise.

I have an Arai, which has a great peak, but the peak can generate noise and unfortunate events like the peak unexpectedly catching the wind over the windscreen (instant neck adjustment).

My Shoei, on the other hand, is very quiet but the peak is not much use. Both can be used with goggles, and have washable linings which is handy in an Adv Helmet.

In the shop yesterday and asked the price of the Zeus adv helmet, heard some good reviews on them, on special at the mo, $149. I ordered one.....

which shop? I'm looking out for a replacement for the HJC IS Multi which has been good for Adv and Road (noisy but)

There is no ideal helmet for all. Adventure designs are better than road only but still too hot for trail riding in summer. Trail or MX desgins are not nice to go any distance on the road in. Best compromise I have found is a trail helmet for summer as long as the travel on road isnt too long distance and road helmet that does for most other rides. If you have $ to burn then you can always have 3 helmets......

I'm getting there, Five helmets in the cupboard. along with six pairs of gloves, ( each one, just what I needed). Five jackets, Two tank bags, neither fit my current bike. Three styles of protective trousers ( I wear jeans mostly).

After 44 years riding, I'm beginning to work out just what I ideally, need. ie: None of what I have.

But my 3 helmets cost less all up than a lot of people pay for just 1 lid, so it's not too extravagant.

I have 3 helmets. Road, offroad and Shoei adventure thing. While the adventure helmet isn't great for high speed road, or low speed single track, it's the best all round helmet for what I do. It's all I wear now.

Had a Zeus Adv helmet arrived today. Took a punt and bought unseen off T me. $50. Arrived in the original wrapping, box. It had been worn twice then put back in the box and into the cupboard. There is not a mark on the helmet or visor. It really is 'as new'. I bought it with the intention of seeing how it felt on the bike then getting a new one. This is as good .

On the cruiser, it has less wind noise than any of my road helmets, bar one. . A bit heavy but internally it sits on my head better than the others.

You can also get some bits for the sides and top to turn it into the 2100 road helmet but after opening up the peak vents for better air flow with a dremel, I never remove the peak.

I have an Arai Tour X2 (adv) and an Arai Chaser (FF road) and there is no comparison. The Tour X is noisy and cold, but great for Adv riding where the going is slow. The Chaser is quiet, but too hot for Adv riding. You hear a lot of plonkers talking about how the peak on the Tour X and similar helmets rips your head back or vibrates in the airflow. To those people, I would say "Buy a road helmet, or slow the f*** down".
