Maps are cheaper, dont break down, dont lose power, are not affected by sun spots, dont talk to you or make you spend 10 hours trying to program them.

Yeah, but women can't read them, they don't talk back, get soggy in the rain, and don't alert you to fixed speed cameras.

You could draw your map on a scroll, and make a holder out of a small clickclack box, much like the ones used by adventure riders.

many years ago we used to 500k organised adventure rides. What was received was a grid of intersections and points of interest. We used to cut them up in ordered strips, sellotape them together like a roll of toilet paper.
We got a click clack box, drilled two axles through the sides with knobs on, and wind them on. While on route we would wind the map grids through the clear lid of the CC box, thus having our directions. These were mounted on the handle bar brace. oh for the good ol days of those rides.

    Ride the area before hand

You learn the area and get to go for rides... win win!

umm it helps you get to and back from places you have no fucking idea where you are...kinda like a map which you where asking about a holder for...

The GPS system lead to a small balls up on our last ride...not always as effective as the human brain/mind...which I would trust more.
Most knew that we would be stopping at X place for a morning coffee...but Mrs GPS took them somewhere else.
I like visual, rather than spoken directions.
