Carried boxed helmets on board a few times now. Got stopped in Akl after flying back from Nagoya in Japan with a set of rearsets as carry on. No problem with the international flight (they opened the box and inspected them) but apparently I wasn't going to be allowed to board a domestic flight with them. I asked them why I would fly 11hrs with them in my possession only to board a 1hr domestic flight and use them to hijack that flight. That was met with a reply of 'we are not concerned with their safety regulations, just ours'. It was starting to look bad (as by now I was considering using them as a weapon) until another customs guy overheard our discussion, asked what sort of bike I rode, told me he rode a Blackbird, and told the useless black bird who was stopping me from boarding to let me by. Which she did. I still have the plane too.
I've taken helmets domestically and internationally without issue. Usually just in the helmet bag slung over my shoulder like a normal bag.

Couple of issues really:
Cost cutting both in services, and in outsourcing maintenance overseas while shutting down or scaling down on our maintenance facilities. (job losses)
More obvious one, price of travel WILL go up.
And all this because the new investors will want a good return for their dollars spent.
I've spent my money on bikes, booze and babes. The rest I've wasted....
Flew from aucks to LA to New york then onto frankfurt and manchester with no problems at all with a helmet. return trip was also trouble free
Hi Dave, Yes, 2012 Yamaha R1 launch at The Farm (private road course a couple of hours drive north of Sydney). The big news is the inclusion of the six stage (plus "off") Traction Control. We were lucky enough to spend the day in the rain, proving the TCS is both effective and oh so smooth in operation. All will be revealed in KR in due course.
Cheers,

It's OK to disagree with me. I can't force you to be right.
That's cool, I'm pleased. Last couple of trips from Phillip Island, at Melbourne they had metal frame go/no go tool. If your bag fitted in the frame you were OK, if it didn't - tough. A helmet wouldn't fit but then it is a special case. You'd just have to hope the staff were a bit flexible.
