Colin McRae had a Mk2 Escort build not long prior to his death, admittedly using a lot of modern technology, he was often quicker than the modern WRC cars over the same stages.

I think these bikes appeal to a different audience. I love the simplicity of a classic cafe racer, but I don't have the time or inclination to put up with the maintenance, fettling, running etc. I don't want the latest R1 or Gixxer, I would like something that has the character and charm of these old bikes, but starts first time, stops, handles, doesn't consume rare and expensive parts and won't make a world of classic bike nuts cry if I accidentally drop it. I just don't have the money to buy one of these...

My cat is a Manx, he's called Norton.

I was going to post that they really needed the Vincent HRD twin as well...
And I to my motorcycle parked like the soul of the junkyard. Restored, a bicycle fleshed with power, and tore off. Up Highway 106 continually drunk on the wind in my mouth. Wringing the handlebar for speed, wild to be wreckage forever.

That is why I sold the faster and more powerful ZX-10 for my Guzzi V11 Sport.
Classic cafe racer looks and charm,.."sorta" good reliability and most parts aren't too dear.

The Vincent would have to almost be on the top of the lotto list for me.
Just to have it sitting in a glass case in my room........

How can you run a 1600cc 'Vincent' engine in Classic Races...there are probably almost no original parts in the engine.

I think you could build the same thing back then though.

The classic races at Pukekohe are one of the last pure 'classic' races left and they are having to waver a few things (elec ign inside a mag body etc). In most countries hardly any of the classics are proper 'as raced' bikes. Shame but they are fragile things.

A 1600cc Vincient 'should' have a class to run in though - just cos its cool. Lets call it the clever bastards cool shit class.....

I've told the story before. I was circulating Hampton Downs on a 2011 Hyabusa. It's too small for me to ride really fast. (Low seat - high pegs - too cramped for a 6'5" bloke to get off-board), but I was giving it the berries on the straights and the sweeper and Stroudy passed me on one of Ken Macintosh's Norton Manxs like I was standing still.

    They ferkin' go all right.
